About The Company

At EatClub, we believe restaurants and bars are at the heart of every city’s culture. From discovering a neighbourhood favourite to enjoying a late-night takeaway or meeting friends for a drink, our mission is to help the hospitality industry thrive through smart, powerful technology.

Our platform helps more than four million customers discover restaurants and access real-time deals, while supporting over 8,000 venues to fill tables, increase foot traffic and maximise revenue. Initially co-founded by Marco Pierre White and leaders in food technology, EatClub is now a rapidly growing team of more than 200 people. We have been recognised as Australia’s Fastest Growing Tech Company by the AFR in 2025, and we’re continuing to build technology that makes a meaningful difference to diners and hospitality businesses.

About The Role

As a Backend Engineer, you will build and improve the systems that power the experiences restaurants and diners use every day. Working primarily in Java within a serverless AWS environment, you’ll design APIs, deliver product features and help ensure our platform remains reliable as it grows. You’ll collaborate closely with product, frontend and engineering teammates, taking work from early ideas through to production.

This is a hands-on role with variety and ownership. You could be developing a new feature, extending an API, investigating a performance issue or improving the way we test and release services. We value engineers who are curious about the problem behind the work, communicate clearly and take responsibility for delivering thoughtful,

dependable solutions.

Qualifications

You bring three to five years of commercial experience as a Java developer, supported by a degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline. You have strong backend development skills, a sound understanding of software engineering principles and experience building serverless APIs. You are comfortable designing and working with REST and GraphQL APIs, and have practical experience with SQL and NoSQL databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.

You can investigate issues, tune performance and write automated tests that make code easier to maintain and change. Familiarity with modern architecture, design patterns and Git is expected, along with strong written and verbal communication. Applicants must have full working rights in Australia. Experience with AWS services such as S3, AppSync, API Gateway or Lambda, and with CI/CD pipelines, will be an advantage. An interest in food, restaurants and dining is welcome.

Responsibilities

Design, build and maintain scalable backend services in Java, including serverless APIs. Develop and extend REST and GraphQL interfaces, and work with product and frontend colleagues to deliver features from concept to production.

Improve the performance, reliability and scalability of services by investigating technical issues, addressing root causes and tuning database queries where needed.

Write automated tests and produce clear, maintainable code. Participate in code reviews, share knowledge with teammates and contribute to improvements in monitoring, testing and deployment practices. You’ll also help evolve and simplify our architecture as the platform and customer needs develop, while keeping the impact on restaurants and diners in view.

Perks

Join an innovative, fast-moving company shaping the future of dining and hospitality technology. You’ll have autonomy, flexibility and the opportunity to take meaningful ownership of your work, supported by a collaborative, high-performing team that values creativity, initiative and results. Enjoy access to restaurant and hospitality industry leaders, staff discounts and EatClub dining vouchers. Your work will help venues connect with customers and help diners discover great places to eat.

Equal Opportunity

EatClub welcomes applicants with different backgrounds and experiences. You do not need to meet every listed criterion to apply; we recognise that potential and future success are not measured by past experience alone. If you’re motivated to learn, contribute and grow with our team, we encourage you to get in touch. Any decision to try the EatClub app or use an optional offer is entirely voluntary and has no bearing on your application or interview process.
