We are seeking an experienced Data Architect / Principal Data Engineering who can operate as the technical second-in-command to the Data Engineering Lead, owning delivery, architecture, stakeholder engagement, and technical leadership responsibilities, while people management remains with the existing leadership team.

Lead

end-to-end data initiatives

from requirements gathering and solution design through to implementation, testing, and business validation.

Coordinate and provide technical direction to a small team of data engineers.

Manage multiple projects and priorities concurrently, removing blockers and accelerating delivery.

Operate with a high degree of ownership, autonomy, and accountability.

2. Stakeholder Management & Communication

Build strong relationships with both business and technical stakeholders.

Facilitate workshops, gather requirements, manage expectations, and drive outcomes.

Translate business needs into practical, scalable data solutions.

Communicate effectively with technical teams, project managers, vendors,



and senior stakeholders.

Design and govern enterprise-scale data platforms, integrations, reporting, and analytics solutions.

Provide architectural leadership and ensure solutions align with business, technical, security, and governance requirements.

Lead architecture reviews, impact assessments, migration planning, and solution assurance activities.

Experience with data warehousing, Lakehouse architectures, data modelling, integration patterns, and data governance.

4. Technical Expertise Strong working knowledge of:

Databricks Lakehouse

Microsoft Fabric

Power BI

Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations

APIs, data pipelines, and reporting platforms

Hybris

Unity Catalog

Synapse Analytics

CI/CD and DevOps practices

Review vendor proposals, architecture recommendations, and delivery plans.

Ensure compliance with data quality, security, lifecycle management, and operational standards.

6. AI-Enabled & Self-Service Mindset

Effectively leverage AI tools to improve productivity, documentation, analysis, and solution delivery.

Independently research, learn, and understand existing systems with minimal supervision.





Apply sound technical judgement while validating AI-assisted outputs.

Personal Attributes

Strong leadership presence without requiring formal people-management responsibility.

Pragmatic, cooperative, and outcome-focused.

Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments and driving decisions.

Capable of mentoring engineers and influencing stakeholders.

Preferably Sydney-based to facilitate direct engagement with business stakeholders.
