Head of Production | Dark Mofo

Permanent, full-time, involving out-of-hours work during festival peaks

Located in Hobart, Tasmania

DarkLab is seeking an experienced, organised, and systems-driven Head of Production to translate ambitious creative concepts into operationally seamless, world-class events for Dark Mofo.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, you will own the overarching production and scheduling frameworks across the festival, driving consistency in how our teams plan, build, and deliver. You will champion best-practice production systems, oversee venue and site feasibility, lead major supplier and engineering relationships, and orchestrate complex logistics across concurrent sites. If you are a seasoned production leader who thrives at the intersection of creative ambition, technical precision, and rock-solid safety, this is your gig.

The Gig

- Establishing, standardising, and embedding project and production management tools, templates, and documentation across all festival teams.

- Overseeing the master festival-wide schedule (using platforms like Propared), tracking key dependencies, resolving clashes, and driving scheduling adoption across departments, under the guidance of the Executive Director and Executive Producers.

- Ensuring that festival-wide schedule dates filter down to project-level planning and that there is symmetry where required.

- Leading commercial negotiation, procurement, and performance management for major festival-wide goods, services, temporary structures, and engineering contractors.

- Providing production advice and support to project teams throughout planning and delivery.

- Overseeing off-site fabrication and maintenance of shared festival assets.

- Overseeing the sourcing and securing of venues and sites in accordance with leads provided by Executive Producers, including site visits, feasibility assessments, and capacity, access, and compliance considerations.

- Overseeing year-round warehouse operations, inventory control, transport, and freight in close coordination with Mona’s warehouse team.

- Managing the Draftsperson to deliver cohesive site plans, coordinating technical/operations requirements, and advising on drafting solutions.

- Providing production and infrastructure support for high-volume bars and food/beverage operations, as allocated based on candidate experience.

- Championing rigorous WHS standards across temporary sites, providing senior escalation support, and contributing to the Event Operations Centre roster during festival operations.

- Working within allocated budgets and contributing production input to the development of project budgets against agreed milestones, where necessary.

The You

- Extensive senior production leadership experience delivering large-scale, multi-site festivals or complex live events to strict deadlines, budgets, and standards.

- Demonstrated experience overseeing warehouse operations, inventory control, and multi-project freight and logistics.

- Experience delivering high-volume bar or beverage production infrastructure in a festival setting is desirable, but not essential.

- Working knowledge of production scheduling software (such as Propared or similar platforms) with a proven track record of embedding scalable systems across diverse teams.

- Skilled at high-stakes supplier negotiation, procurement, engineering sign-offs, and temporary structure certifications.

- High-level site planning and drawing capability, with significant experience using Vectorworks, highly regarded.

- Deep understanding of live event and temporary infrastructure WHS obligations, with the confidence to challenge unsafe plans and uphold secure work practices on the ground.

- Calm, collaborative, and adaptable during high-intensity festival delivery peaks, with the authority to lead escalations when timelines shift.

- A positive, cooperative attitude dedicated to contributing to a supportive workplace culture and valuing the wellbeing of your colleagues.

Does this sound like you? We want to meet you. Please apply below, stating why you’re the best person for the role. Applications close on 20 November 2026, but applications will be reviewed as they are received.
