Potential for longer shifts: Yes

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, caring and reliable female Disability Support Worker to support two children with complex support needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), in Port Melbourne.

This role is suited to someone with substantial experience supporting children with disabilities who is patient, compassionate, proactive and confident providing personal care and assistance with daily routines.

The successful candidate will help the children maintain a safe, comfortable and structured daily routine, supporting their independence, wellbeing and participation in everyday activities.

We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with children, understands the needs of children with complex disabilities and can build a positive, trusting relationship with the children and their family.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide individualised support to two children with complex needs and ASD.
- Assist with personal care, hygiene, dressing and other daily living activities as required.
- Support morning and afternoon routines, ensuring the children are prepared for school and settled at home.
- Safely transport the children to and from school, including school drop-offs and pickups.
- Prepare meals and snacks according to the children's dietary requirements and family instructions.
- Assist with domestic duties, including tidying, cleaning, laundry and maintaining a safe home environment.
- Follow established routines, care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support strategies where applicable.

- Support emotional regulation and respond calmly and appropriately to challenging behaviours.
- Communicate effectively with the family and report any concerns, incidents or changes in the children's presentation.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and follow all relevant safety, safeguarding and organisational procedures.

Shift Availability

The role currently involves the following shifts:

- Morning shifts: 7:00 am – 10:00 am
- Afternoon shifts: 3:00 pm – 6:30 pm

There is potential for longer shifts and additional hours for the right candidate, depending on the family's needs and service requirements.

Applicants should ideally be available for both morning and afternoon shifts and be able to commit to a consistent roster.

Essential Requirements

- Previous experience supporting children with disabilities and complex support needs.
- Demonstrated experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Experience assisting with personal care, daily living activities and structured routines.
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Current Working With Children Check.
- Certificate III or higher in Individual Support, Disability Support, Community Services or a relevant qualification.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Current driver's licence and a reliable, appropriately insured vehicle suitable for transporting children.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with families.
- A reliable, patient, calm and professional approach.
- Commitment to child safety, dignity, privacy and safeguarding.

Desirable Experience

- Experience supporting children with complex behavioural, sensory, communication or developmental needs.
- Training in positive behaviour support, de-escalation and trauma-informed care.
- Experience following individualised care plans and behaviour support plans.
- Experience supporting children who require a high level of supervision and assistance with daily routines.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be warm, dependable, observant and confident supporting children with complex needs. You must be able to follow established routines, respond appropriately to challenging situations and provide consistent, respectful support.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have substantial hands-on experience supporting children with ASD and complex disabilities, rather than experience exclusively supporting adults.

Female applicants are sought for this position where this is a lawful and genuine occupational requirement for the role.

How to Apply

If you have the relevant experience, qualifications and availability, we would love to hear from you.

Please submit your resume outlining your experience supporting children with ASD and complex disabilities, your relevant qualifications and checks, your availability for morning and afternoon shifts, and confirmation that you hold a current driver's licence and have access to a suitable vehicle.
