Job title: Chef — Village Café (5 days/week)

About us

Village Café is a busy neighbourhood café serving breakfast and lunch with a focus on fresh, seasonal produce and friendly service. We’re looking for a hands‑on chef to join our small, energetic team five days a week.

Key responsibilities
Prepare and cook breakfast and lunch menu items to café standards every service.
Run a station during service: cook, plate and quality‑check dishes.
Complete daily mise en place, prep lists and portion control.
Maintain stock levels, rotate inventory and minimise food waste.
Ensure food safety, hygiene and correct storage procedures are followed.
Train and mentor junior cooks and casual staff as required.
Help develop weekly specials, update recipes and refine plating.
Keep kitchen, equipment and dishware clean and organised.

Skills & experience
Previous café or commercial kitchen experience (3 + years preferred).




Robust breakfast/lunch cooking skills and speed under pressure.
Good knife skills; familiarity with basic butchery and pantry prep.
Food safety certification (or willingness to obtain).
Reliable, punctual, able to work rostered shifts including early mornings and weekends.
Team player with transparent communication and a positive attitude.

Hours & employment
Five days per week (rotating roster; early starts typical). Exact shift pattern to be discussed at interview.
Competitive hourly rate plus applicable penalty rates and superannuation.
