Application Engineering Manager

Lead an engineering team delivering business-critical applications, with ownership across technical direction, people development and customer outcomes.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity within an established technology business. You’ll work across application development, integrations and production operations, partnering with customers to solve complex problems and improve how services are delivered.

The role

You’ll lead developers and support engineers through the full software lifecycle, balancing recent development with platform reliability and continuous improvement.

Your responsibilities will include:
Coaching and developing engineers, including hiring, performance management and career development.
Shaping technical designs and maintaining standards across code quality, security and testing.
Owning delivery planning, estimation, priorities and releases.
Improving CI/CD pipelines, automation and engineering practices.
Managing production reliability, incident response and service commitments.
Working directly with customers to understand requirements, explain technical options and resolve escalations.
Using delivery and operational metrics to improve team performance.





About you

You bring a solid software engineering background and experience leading teams while remaining involved in technical decisions.

We’re looking for:
Solid hands-on Java experience and practical Azure knowledge.
Experience with event-driven systems, APIs and complex integrations.
Exposure to Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes and databases such as MongoDB or PostgreSQL.
Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure automation and Azure DevOps.
Confidence managing production services, incidents and SLAs.
Clear communication and the ability to build relationships with technical and business stakeholders.

Python, up-to-date JavaScript frameworks and experience in retail, commerce or payments settings would be beneficial.
