Digital Content and UX Specialist
Job Type:
Temporary Contract - June ****
Salary/Rate:
AO6 $***** per hour + Superannuation
Your Chance
As a Contract Digital Content and UX Specialist, you will lead the practical layout cleanup and content rewriting of the department's internal intranet pages.
The current intranet infrastructure is difficult for busy operational staff to navigate.
Working directly with internal subject matter experts, who will act as the primary advisors and provide all technical parameters such as web design.
your job is to strip out complex jargon, flatten the information architecture, and rebuild the pages into clean, highly logical, and user-friendly digital workspaces.
You will pull together end user feedback to help guide your design, develop content, toolkits, and work closely with key stakeholders to redesign and rewrite complex information into an easy to use and functionally helpful communication portal.
Key Responsibilities
Re-architect and simplify the layout of existing internal pages (using high-visibility compliance topics, such as hazardous materials or emergency procedures, as baseline test cases) to ensure staff can locate critical information logically and quickly.
Review existing text and rewrite complex, bureaucratic internal language into highly clear, plain-English action points without altering the underlying procedural compliance.
Utilise the department's native web design tools to transform text-heavy guidelines into simple, step-by-step visual flowcharts, interactive checklists, and easily downloadable templates.
Coordinate and deploy straightforward end-user surveys to frontline staff to identify current navigation roadblocks and validate that the new workflows are functional for the broader business.
Act as the bridge between technical experts and the end user.
Work collaboratively with the internal team to smooth out their raw guidance, build draft page layouts, and manage the feedback and approval loop efficiently.
Core Skillset & Capability Requirements
Practical, hands-on experience using web editing tools and content management systems (such as OnePortal, SharePoint or native government intranet engines) to build clean layout blocks and optimize menus.
A proven ability to organize, group, and signpost digital content logically so users do not experience cognitive overload.
Strong plain-language editing skills, with a knack for "jargon-busting" and breaking long procedures down into punchy, scannable fragments.
Basic graphic or layout design skills to convert raw instructions into intuitive visual aids like flowcharts, matrices, or checklists.
Excellent communication skills to work alongside internal subject matter experts, respecting their role as advisors while maintaining firm boundaries around keeping the pages clean, short, and user-focused
