We're looking for two technically robust Senior Accountants to step in as 2IC to two of our Managers. You'll be the person your Manager relies on to handle complex work, keep quality high and keep the workload moving, accurately and efficiently. These roles are more technical than client-facing. Your focus is on getting the work right, but you'll still speak with clients to walk them through the outcomes of their returns and what comes next. If you enjoy the technical side of accounting and take pride in clean, well-prepared work, this role is built for you. And because we value getting it right, our "First Time Right" bonus structure rewards exactly that.
Key responsibilities
Prepare and review financial statements and tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships, SMSFs and individuals
Take on the more complex technical jobs in the team, including tax research and multi-entity structures
Review work prepared by junior team members and help them lift their technical standard
Act as 2IC to your Manager, supporting workflow, deadlines and quality control
Identify tax planning and compliance issues as you work and flag them to your Manager
Discuss return outcomes with clients clearly and confidently
Handle property investment clients, including rental property returns, depreciation, CGT on property disposals and property-holding structures
Collaborate with our specialised service hubs (Lending, Compliance, Strategic Business, Strategic Investment) when a client needs more than compliance
Contribute in team meetings and share technical knowledge across the team
About you
CA/CPA qualified, or well progressed through your CA/CPA program
4+ years' experience in an Australian public practice accounting firm (essential)
Hands-on experience preparing and reviewing Australian tax returns across individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships and SMSFs
Extensive experience with property investment taxation, including rental property schedules, Division 40 and 43 depreciation, negative gearing, and property held through trusts, companies and SMSFs
Strong working knowledge of CGT, including property disposals, the main residence exemption, small business CGT concessions and cost base calculations
Solid understanding of Division 7A, including loan agreements, minimum yearly repayments and identifying deemed dividend risks
Working knowledge of trust distributions and streaming, and FBT
Experience with BAS/IAS preparation and lodgement, ATO correspondence, lodgement programs and ATO compliance
Preparation and review of financial statements in line with current Australian Accounting Standards
Proficient with Xero and XPM; exposure to other software highly regarded
Accurate and efficient: you get it right the first time and get it done
Comfortable reviewing others' work and giving constructive feedback
A clear communicator who can explain outcomes to clients in plain language
A team player who takes feedback as a privilege, not a criticism
Access to our "First Time Right" bonus program, designed to reward the accuracy and efficiency we value most
A defined pathway (Entry, Developing, Proficient, Senior, Leadership) with transparent criteria for what "next level" looks like, not guesswork
Discretionary pay reviews based on performance and growth, not locked into a once-a-year cycle
Work from home one day per week after probation
Regular 1:1s with firm leadership to track your progress and shape your future here
