Mount Blowhard Primary School is located approximately 15 kilometres north of Ballarat and is an integral part of the local community. Our well-resourced school is set within spacious grounds, providing students with room to learn, play and explore. Our learning programs and school events recognise and respect the history, traditions and values of our rural community.

Mount Blowhard Primary School offers the best of both worlds ¿ a welcoming rural education within easy reach of Ballarat. We are proud of our strong sense of community and the positive relationships that exist between students, staff, families and the wider community.

Our School Vision is to ensure that all students achieve their academic, social, emotional and physical potential in a supportive and purposeful learning environment. Our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Excellence and Kindness underpin all interactions. These values are reinforced through our school rules: Be Honest, Be Safe, Be Nice, Be Positive and Be a Learner.

Our School

Mount Blowhard Primary School has a proud history spanning more than 140 years. From our beginnings as a small rural school, we have grown to attract enrolments from a wider area, reflecting the ongoing residential growth on the outskirts of Ballarat.

There were 79 students enrolled at the commencement of the 2026 school year. Our school comprises four multi-age classrooms: Foundation, Year 1/2, Year 3/4 and Year 5/6.

This structure provides opportunities for students to develop strong relationships across year levels and to learn from and support one another.

We place great value on strong home-school partnerships and meaningful connections with our wider community. Families are encouraged to be active participants in school life, contributing to the welcoming, connected and supportive culture that is a defining feature of Mount Blowhard Primary School.

Teaching and Learning

Mount Blowhard Primary School is committed to evidence-based teaching and learning practices. Our literacy and numeracy programs are informed by contemporary research and evidence-based approaches, with a strong focus on ensuring that all students experience success and make strong learning progress.

The Science of Learning, Science of Reading, Cognitive Load Theory and Explicit Direct Instruction inform our pedagogy, classroom practice and professional learning. Teachers work collaboratively to develop consistent, high-quality instructional practices and provide students with clear learning intentions, explicit teaching, regular opportunities for practice and timely feedback.

Our approach is underpinned by high expectations for every student.

We believe that all students can learn and that effective teaching, appropriate support and a purposeful learning environment are critical to achieving strong outcomes.

Wellbeing and Inclusion

The wellbeing of our students, families and staff is highly valued. We have a range of practices and programs in place to promote an inclusive, caring and safe school workplace where every student feels known, supported and valued.

Mount Blowhard Primary School implements the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework. This approach focuses on explicitly teaching, modelling, reinforcing and celebrating the behaviours we want to see across our school community.

Our positive and accepting culture values effort, persistence and personal growth. Students are encouraged to take pride in their learning, challenge themselves and understand the importance of giving their best.

Each class participates in regular wellbeing lessons incorporating content from the Resilience Project and Respectful Relationships programs. There is also an ongoing focus on developing students' skills in gratitude, empathy, mindfulness, positive relationships and emotional regulation.

A Broad and Well-Rounded Curriculum

Part-time specialist teachers contribute to a balanced and well-rounded curriculum, providing programs in Physical Education, The Arts (art, music and performing arts) and Chinese. Our students also access the MARC Van fortnightly for library borrowing and returning, as well as History learning.

The school also provides Multisensory Structured Language (MSL) interventi
