This six-month temporary opportunity sits within a prestigious independent school renowned for its commitment to educational excellence and supportive community culture. As part of a dedicated finance team, you will be responsible for delivering an efficient and accurate payroll service, supporting both teaching and professional staff across the organisation.

The role will see you manage payroll processing from start to finish, respond to payroll queries, maintain employee records, and assist with compliance requirements, contributing to the smooth operation of a critical function within the school.

About the Role

Reporting to an experienced and supportive Finance Manager, and working closely with both the Finance and People & Culture teams, your responsibilities will include:

- End-to-end payroll processing for teaching and professional staff
- Accurate interpretation and application of relevant Awards, Enterprise Agreements, and payroll legislation
- Processing new starters, terminations, salary changes, and employee lifecycle updates
- Managing leave entitlements, timesheets, and payroll adjustments
- Responding to payroll-related queries and providing excellent support to employees
- Processing superannuation, payroll tax, and other statutory obligations
- Payroll reconciliations and reporting
- Maintaining accurate employee and payroll master data
- Assisting with month-end processes, audits, and payroll compliance requirements
- Identifying opportunities for process improvement and supporting payroll system maintenance

Your Profile





To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated experience in end-to-end payroll processing within a complex, high-volume environment. You will possess a solid understanding of payroll legislation, compliance requirements, and the interpretation of Awards and Enterprise Agreements.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to build strong working relationships across finance, People & Culture, and the broader school community. A customer-focused approach and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion are critical.

Previous experience within the education sector will be highly regarded, particularly within an independent school environment. However, candidates with payroll experience from other complex or regulated organisations are encouraged to apply.
