Project Officer (Community Engagement) – Identified
University of New South Wales – Kensington NSW
- Kensington, NSW (on campus requirement with potential hybrid available)
Why This Role Matters:
The Project Officer (Community Engagement) Identified, supports the UNSW Faculty of Engineering’s Student Equity team to address barriers to access and participation experienced by underrepresented cohorts. This includes women, non-binary and gender diverse students, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
The role takes an intersectional approach to supporting engagement, pathways and success in engineering. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Faculty of Engineering’s Student Equity team, Future Student Recruitment and other areas of the Faculty.
As an identified position, the role will also involve developing and maintaining meaningful partnerships with Indigenous communities and supporting Indigenous engagement initiatives.
The role provides project coordination and administrative support across key programs and projects. Responsibilities include supporting project planning and delivery, coordinating events and activities, preparing reports, assisting with data analysis, developing communications and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
The successful candidate will have an understanding of the barriers experienced by underrepresented communities in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics sectors (STEM).
Demonstrated understanding of engineering or STEM engagement and/or knowledge of the NSW school curriculum would be an advantage but is not essential.
We are seeking someone who is organised, team-oriented, proactive and committed to supporting greater access, participation and success in engineering.
The role is an identified Indigenous position.
UNSW considers that being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification under s.14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW). This position is open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants only. UNSW has obtained an exemption under section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW) to designate and recruit professional and academic positions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons only, to fulfil UNSW’s goal of a representative workforce rate.
