Senior / Staff Backend Engineer/n Melbourne (hybrid)

They're looking for a Senior or Staff TypeScript engineer to own back-end systems on a real-time, high-throughput platform. High-stakes, performance production code where your decisions matter from day one. /n The team is small, the bar is high. What you'll do
/n /n
- Build and own back-end microservices in Node/NestJS handling thousands of concurrent users /n
- Lead performance optimisation on critical transaction paths and real-time data flows /n
- Design for scale: distributed systems, event-driven architecture, high availability /n
- Own a technical domain end to end, including quality and architecture decisions /n
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and set the standard for back-end engineering practice /n About you/n /n
- Senior or Staff-level TypeScript/Node.js engineer with a strong back-end focus /n
- Experience with high-transaction, real-time systems: fintech, gaming,



trading, or similar /n
- Deep understanding of scalable architectures, microservices, and event-driven systems /n
- Production PostgreSQL

experience:
schema design, query optimisation, performance at scale /n
- Comfortable owning hard problems without a playbook
- you set direction, not follow it /n Nice to have/n /n
- Full-stack exposure (React/TypeScript front end) /n
- Security principles for financial or sensitive data handling /n
- iGaming, betting, or crypto/Web3 experience /n Stack/n TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, PostgreSQL, AWS, CI/CD. React on the front end. Comp/n AUD $160k-$200k base + bonus for Senior; higher for Staff/Principal. Negotiable on experience. Details/n Melbourne-based. Hybrid, mix of in-office and remote.
