Position Information

South Sydney High School is a comprehensive, co-educational high school with a strong learning culture, situated in Maroubra with an enrolment of 800 students. Care, Opportunity and Success underpins our philosophy, where our staff have high expectations of themselves and all students.

The school caters to the learning and wellbeing needs of a diverse socio-economic and multicultural community where 44% of our students have a language background other than English and 5% of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. South Sydney offers a well-rounded, balanced education that offers outstanding opportunities through to the HSC and beyond, including well-established student leadership programs, a dynamic Student Representative Council (SRC) and an active Prefect body.

2027 sees the commencement of an Inclusive Education Unit at South Sydney High School.

Co-curricular activities provide opportunities for students to excel and develop their talents. This includes: an extensive music program,



a High Potential and Gifted Education Program and other enrichment opportunities for students.

South Sydney High School works towards creating a framework that encompasses the broad range of curriculum requirements in each KLA and embeds quality teaching practices with a range of evidence- based teaching practices. Students are able to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills effectively across all KLA's and Big Picture Academies to ensure individual success.

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience in teaching special education with demonstrated capacity in working with students with autism, moderate intellectual disabilities, and with complex behavioural and communication needs.

Evidence of communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, with demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with students, mainstream teachers, support staff, families and external agencies to contribute to the establishment of a recent Inclusive Education Unit and strengthen practices across the school.

Capacity to collaborate with staff across the school to improve student outcomes through evidence-based practice and the design and delivery of high-quality, differentiated, and engaging teaching and learning programs that meet the diverse needs of a wide range of students.

Demonstrated knowledge and application of positive behaviour plans,



strategies and proactive classroom practices that promote student engagement, independence, safety and participation.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
