About the Role

We are seeking a practical and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop sheet-metal products, electrical enclosures, isolators and switchgear assemblies.

To be successful in this role, you will have a combination of engineering design ability and practical manufacturing knowledge.

Using Autodesk Inventor, you will take designs from concept through to manufacturing, producing accurate 3D models, detailed drawings and BOMs. You will work closely with our production team to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective and suitable for fabrication and assembly.

Key Responsibilities

- Create 3D models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
- Design sheet-metal enclosures, cabinets, doors, brackets and associated components.
- Produce flat patterns, general arrangement drawings and bills of materials.
- Apply knowledge of laser cutting, punching, folding, welding and assembly.




- Develop mechanical layouts for electrical components, isolators and switchgear.
- Work with production to resolve design issues and improve manufacturability.
- Maintain accurate drawings, revisions and technical documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve product quality, standardisation and manufacturing costs.
- Proven experience with Autodesk Inventor and 3D mechanical design.
- Strong knowledge of sheet-metal design and fabrication processes.
- Ability to produce clear, accurate manufacturing drawings.
- Understanding of materials, tolerances, fixings and assembly requirements.
- A practical, hands-on approach with positive problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience designing electrical enclosures, industrial cabinets, isolators or switchgear.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and equipment specifications.
- Familiarity with relevant Australian Standards.
- A qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design or a related field. Relevant industry experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications.
