A warm and safe environment for all members of our learning community is what we strive to offer at Swan View Primary School (PS). Located in Swan View, close to John Forrest National Park, our school is set within stunning grounds and offers extensive play areas for our students. We have a strong Aboriginal student community with 29% of our 320 students identifying as Aboriginal. Find out more about our school by visiting www.swanview.wa.edu.au or Schools Online.
The Role
We are seeking to appoint a friendly and committed Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) to join our team.
The AIEO plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our Aboriginal students. As a liaison between the school and community, the AIEO works closely with teachers, students and families to develop culturally relevant educational programs that empower our Aboriginal students to reach their full potential.
With a deep understanding of Aboriginal culture and history, the AIEO brings a unique perspective to the school community, promoting respect, understanding and harmony.
Through mentoring and pastoral care, the AIEO also provides support and guidance to Aboriginal students to encourage participation and achievement in the classroom.
While the role is focused on inclusion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students,
the work involves a variety of other general tasks, such as administrative duties, guiding students in developing general life skills, assisting in monitoring attendance of Aboriginal students, managing classroom resources, or assisting with behaviour management plans for students at risk.
The desired applicant should ideally have good interpersonal and communication skills to liaise between the community and school to develop an educational program relevant to both educational and cultural needs. They would also be committed to assisting in implementing the Swan View PS RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan) and also upskilling staff around cultural awareness.
