The Council is seeking applications from suitably qualified and/or experienced staff to meet Council's operational plan requirements for the position of full-time Yard Person / Relief Driver to provide effective and effective yard maintenance and any construction activities at the Works Depot in accordance with Council's Operational Plan, together with relief driving HR trucks as required.

Key accountabilities

Within the area of responsibility, this role is required to:

- Maintain Council’s Works Depot yard, gardens and surrounds; including on-site facilities and present in a clean and tidy condition. Tasks may also include other minor miscellaneous activities.
- Carry out minor construction activities as may be required, including site preparation and labouring.
- Drive and operate Council’s Heavy Rigid Vehicles including, but not limited to, bin lifter (garbage) trucks and water carts, when required.
- Ensure wash bay is clean and maintained in a state of operational readiness.
- Maintain the Sign Storage area, facilitating ease of access.
- Clean and maintain plant and vehicles as may be required.




- Assist with the day-to-day operations of Council’s stores and workshop administration area, including but not limited to the unloading, collection, delivery and handling of stock, materials and plant equipment.
- Undertake risk assessments, as required.
- Comply with all WHS obligations.
- Undertake traffic control duties as per qualifications, if required.
- Working knowledge of roles and responsibilities under the WHS Act 2011.
- Report incidents.

Essential requirements

- Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver’s Licence.
- Demonstrated experience in a labouring role preferably in a civil construction environment.
- White Card (General Construction Induction).
- Fork-Lift Licence.
- First Aid Certification/Defibrillator use.
- Traffic Control Certification.
- Working knowledge of roles and responsibilities under WHS Act 2011.

Additional position requirements

- Participate in Council's on-call roster.

Condition of employment

- Grade 6, with a Salary Range of $1170.00 to $1287.00 per week, subject to the demonstration of qualifications, skills and competencies.
- Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award 2026 and Council’s salary structure.
- 38 hour week which includes a nine-day fortnight
- Pre Employment health assessment which meets the pre-requisites for our positions.
