The Company

You will be working for an established, privately owned and growing head contractor operating across the Remedial, Multi-Residential and Commercial sectors. We are proudly certified as a Great Place to Work in Australia.

MAX Build finds solutions to complex remedial challenges, delivering major remediation projects, high-rise façade maintenance and refurbishment works, and building adaptations and upgrades.

With established operations in New South Wales and a growing interstate presence, this role will be based in our Sydney office, supporting our office and site-based teams across the business.

The Role

MAX Build is searching for an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead our human resources function and support the continued growth of the business.

Working closely with senior management, you will develop and implement human resource strategies, policies and plans that meet business needs, strengthen leadership capability and support a productive, engaged workforce.

This is a broad, hands-on management role covering recruitment, employee and workplace relations, performance management, remuneration, learning and development, workforce planning and compliance. You will support managers responsible for construction professionals, tradespeople and operational teams, ensuring consistent people practices across office and project environments.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Determining, implementing, monitoring, reviewing and evaluating human resource management strategies, policies and plans to support business growth, project delivery and workforce requirements.
- Advising and assisting managers with recruitment and selection practices, including workforce planning, role requirements, candidate assessment and appointment processes for office and site-based employees.
- Developing and overseeing induction, training and development programs that support employees’ roles, construction site requirements and ongoing career development.
- Developing and implementing performance management systems to set clear expectations, appraise performance and improve individual and team outcomes, including project management KPIs and employee development plans.

- Managing employee and workplace relations matters, including grievances, disciplinary processes and disputes, and training and advising managers on fair and consistent employment practices.
- Representing MAX Build in negotiations with employees, employee representatives and unions, where applicable, regarding remuneration, employment conditions and workplace matters.
- Developing and implementing occupational health and safety and equal employment opportunity programs, working with operational and safety leaders to ensure people policies, training and workplace practices comply with relevant statutory requirements.
- Overseeing the application of redundancy and other employee retrenchment policies, including consultation, redeployment assessments and coordination of employee entitlements.
- Monitoring employment costs and productivity levels, including headcount, remuneration, overtime, absenteeism and workforce utilisation, and recommending improvements to management.
- Overseeing HR systems, employee records and reporting to provide accurate workforce information and support effective business decisions.

The Right Candidate

The right candidate will be comfortable taking ownership of the HR function and balancing strategic planning with practical, day-to-day support. You will bring sound judgement, strong relationship-building skills and the confidence to advise managers across a construction business.

You will have:

- A relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in human resources, including experience managing a broad HR function and advising senior leaders.
- Experience supporting a construction, engineering, trades or similarly operational workforce.
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and reviewing HR strategies,

policies and procedures aligned with business needs.
- Solid knowledge of Australian employment legislation, modern awards, workplace relations and employment conditions.
- Experience managing employee relations matters, including performance concerns, grievances, disciplinary processes, redundancies and organisational change.
- Proven ability to advise managers on recruitment, selection, induction, training and employee development.
- Experience developing and implementing performance management systems and supporting managers to improve individual and team performance.
- Experience advising on remuneration and employment conditions and representing an employer in discussions or negotiations with employees and their representatives.
- An understanding of WHS, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination obligations, and experience embedding these requirements into workplace policies and practices.
- Strong commercial awareness, including the ability to monitor employment costs, analyse workforce data and recommend practical improvements.
- Experience managing HR systems, maintaining accurate employee records and producing meaningful workforce reports.
- Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters professionally and confidentially.
