Social Worker – Subcontractor
Mindful Therapy Cairns
Location: Speewah, Queensland — approximately 10 minutes from Kuranda and 30 minutes from Cairns
Engagement: Independent subcontractor
Days: Mondays and Tuesdays
Remuneration: Competitive fee-split arrangement
Applications close: Friday, 20 November 2026
About the Opportunity
Mindful Therapy Cairns is seeking an experienced Social Worker to lead our Speewah-based clinical service on Mondays and Tuesdays.
This autonomous role suits a confident practitioner who can manage their clinical day, develop a caseload and work independently while remaining connected to the broader practice.
We support NDIS participants, private clients and people seeking therapeutic support across different life stages.
Our slower, relationship-focused approach recognises the value of nature, creativity, safety and connection in therapeutic engagement.
Our professional consulting spaces are located in a converted stable area on a peaceful equine property in Speewah, offering scope for creative, evidence-informed practice. We particularly welcome clinicians with strengths in creative modalities such as art, narrative, play or expressive therapies.
The Role
You will manage your clinical responsibilities independently within the practice’s policies, procedures and professional standards.
The role offers the opportunity to develop a caseload and build referral relationships while working within an established practice.
A Different Kind of Practice Environment
Our Speewah property is a working equine environment with qualified consulting spaces in the converted stable area.
Sessions may use the consulting spaces and surrounding outdoor environment, depending on each client’s needs and your therapeutic approach.
You do not need to be an equine therapist, but you must enjoy being around animals and be comfortable in a rural, outdoor environment.
We are seeking someone who views the setting as an opportunity for flexible therapeutic practice, not simply an alternative office. Comfort with the tropical Tablelands climate is also important.
Accommodation for Regional Clinicians
Private on-site accommodation is available for the successful clinician if required.
This may suit a regional clinician wishing to consolidate work into a two-day Monday/Tuesday block and reduce daily travel.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you:
- Hold a Bachelor or Master of Social Work and current membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
- Maintain skilled indemnity and public liability insurance and provide current certificates of currency before commencement and on renewal.
- Maintain all required registrations, checks and clearances, including applicable worker screening, working-with-children and criminal-history requirements.
- Practise in accordance with the AASW Code of Ethics, applicable law, privacy, confidentiality, mandatory reporting, record-keeping and practice policies.
- Have at least two years of clinical experience, ideally across mental health, disability, private practice and/or the NDIS.
- Have experience or additional training in creative approaches such as art, play, narrative or expressive therapies.
- Can produce high-quality clinical assessments, documentation and reports.
- Work confidently and independently, take responsibility for clinical work, and actively build referral relationships and a sustainable caseload.
- Be comfortable working around horses and other animals in an outdoor, rural environment.
- Have experience with Halaxy, or be willing to learn with administrative support.
- Hold a current Queensland Blue Card and a current First Aid certificate.
Why Mindful Therapy Cairns?

authentic relationships and creativity.
We prioritise good therapy over rushed therapy and support clients to engage in ways that feel safe and meaningful.
For the right practitioner, this opportunity offers:
- A distinctive clinical workplace incorporating nature, animals and flexible therapeutic spaces.
- Administrative support with Halaxy, billing and practice systems.
- Professional autonomy within an established and supportive practice.
- Professional development opportunities.
- Private in office accommodation, available if required for regional clinicians.
Remuneration and Engagement
The role offers a competitive fee-split arrangement. The exact percentage will be discussed with suitable applicants based on their experience, skills and the value they bring to the practice.
The successful applicant will be engaged as an independent subcontractor under a written agreement and will be responsible for maintaining professional credentials, insurance, taxation and other subcontractor obligations.
Engagement is subject to verification of qualifications, current AASW status, insurance and required screening clearances.
