Looking for a hands-on mechanical fitting role where you'll work on large-scale industrial machinery and put your trade skills to work?

As a Mechanical Fitter at Wilmar Sugar & Renewables, you'll work within our Herbert Region sugar factories, maintaining, repairing and overhauling the heavy mechanical equipment that keeps our operations running. From large milling trains, gearboxes and pumps through to hydraulic systems, bearings, conveyors and associated fixed plant, you'll work across a broad range of machinery in a demanding industrial workplace.

This is a maintenance-focused role where practical fault-finding, mechanical repairs, precision fitting and workshop skills are essential. You'll work alongside other tradespeople and operational teams to investigate breakdowns, complete planned maintenance and keep our equipment operating safely and reliably.

This is a full-time permanent opportunity based in North Queensland's Herbert Region. During the crushing season, generally June to December, maintenance activities focus on keeping the factories running and responding to breakdowns. During the maintenance season, generally January to May, the focus shifts to major repairs, overhauls and preparing the plant for the next crush.

Being based in the beautiful Hinchinbrook Shire and located at either Victoria or Macknade Mill means you can take advantage of the relaxed, outdoor lifestyle when you're off the clock, making this a truly unique career and life opportunity.

Your Role in Action

- Maintain Heavy Industrial Plant: Inspect, service, repair and overhaul large, fixed plant and mechanical equipment, including milling trains, gearboxes, pumps, hydraulic systems, bearings, conveyors and associated machinery.
- Fault-Find & Repair: Diagnose mechanical faults, investigate equipment failures and carry out practical repairs to minimise downtime and maintain safe, reliable factory operations.
- Machine & Manufacture: Use workshop machinery, including lathes, milling machines and other machining equipment, to repair, modify or manufacture mechanical components to suit operational and maintenance requirements.
- Keep Our Equipment Running: Undertake preventative and corrective maintenance, including equipment inspections, component replacements, mechanical adjustments and major overhauls.
- Work Across the Factory: Collaborate with other tradespeople,

operators and the Work Coordinator to plan and complete maintenance activities, respond to breakdowns and identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability.
- Share Your Trade Knowledge: Provide practical guidance and on-the-job support to apprentices and trainees, helping them develop their mechanical skills and trade knowledge.
- Work Safely & Accurately: Follow isolation and permit requirements, complete work orders and maintenance records, and maintain safe working practices across the workshop and factory.
- Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in inspections, identify improvement opportunities, implement corrective actions, and support initiatives that enhance reliability, safety, and efficiency.

Your Winning Combination

We're looking for qualified Mechanical Fitters who take pride in their trade, enjoy hands-on maintenance and are confident working with large industrial machinery.

You'll bring strong mechanical aptitude, practical fault-finding skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and alongside other trades and operational teams. Experience maintaining, repairing and overhauling large, fixed plant will be particularly valuable.

To be considered, you'll need:

- Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Fitting) or an equivalent recognised mechanical fitting trade qualification.

Ideally, you'll also bring:

- Experience maintaining and repairing large, fixed plant, including gearboxes, pumps, hydraulic systems, bearings and heavy mechanical equipment.
- Recent hands-on machining experience, particularly using lathes, milling machines and other workshop equipment.
- Experience in sugar milling, heavy industry, manufacturing, mineral processing or similar industrial maintenance environments.
- Confined Space and Working at Heights competencies.
- A current manual driver's licence.
- Additional relevant High Risk Work Licences or trade competencies.

Don't have all the additional tickets? We still want to hear from you. For the right candidate with the trade skills, aptitude and willingness to learn,

we'll support further training and development to build the competencies required for the role.
