Accountant / Finance Officer: Own the Month-End, Work Directly with Management

As we grow, we’re looking for an Accountant / Finance Officer who wants real responsibility, broad exposure and the chance to help shape how our finance function works.

This is a hands-on role in a small team. You’ll work directly with management and our external accountants, own key parts of the monthly cycle, and help make our processes faster, cleaner and more reliable.

What you’ll do

Reporting and month-end

 Prepare monthly management accounts and year-to-date reports

 Complete bank, general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations on schedule

 Drive an accurate, timely month-end close

 Support cash flow monitoring, budgeting and forecasting

 Prepare year-end information for our external accountants and auditors

Accounts payable and receivable

 Process supplier invoices, payments and expense claims

 Manage student fee receivables, matching payments to student accounts

 Follow up overdue balances and report on accounts in arrears

Payroll and administration

 Assist with payroll processing and reconciliations

 Keep financial records and supporting documentation in order

 Be the go-to contact for staff,



suppliers and service providers on finance matters

Improving how we work

 Spot and implement improvements to procedures, reporting and month-end

 Help strengthen financial controls

 Give management timely, reliable numbers and answer routine financial queries

What you’ll bring

 At least one year of accounting or finance experience

 A degree or qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related field

 Practical experience with Xero

 A solid grasp of bookkeeping, reconciliations and core accounting principles

 Good Excel skills and confidence working with financial data

 Sharp attention to detail and a track record of meeting deadlines

 Clear communication and solid organisation

 The initiative to work independently and the attitude to contribute to a small team

Experience with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll or student fee accounting is a plus, as is a background in higher education or another regulated sector, but neither is essential.
