Finance Manager
Your new company
Hays has partnered with COX Architecture to appoint a Finance Manager to its Canberra studio.
COX Architecture is one of Australia's leading contemporary architectural practices, with a highly collaborative culture and a portfolio of significant projects across Australia and New Zealand.
This is not a traditional Finance Manager opportunity. Working closely with the Studio Partners, Project Leads and the national finance team, you will take ownership of the Canberra finance function while also supporting the New Zealand business.
With much of the traditional month-end processing managed centrally, the opportunity is to develop the position towards a commercial focus, becoming an influential finance partner to the studio.
The Opportunity
An early priority will be improving the finance and project accounting framework, creating stronger processes and greater visibility over project performance. From there, you will increasingly focus on commercial outcomes, partnering with project leaders to understand and improve the performance of their projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the daily finance function of the Canberra studio
- Partnering with Studio Partners and Project Leads on project performance and commercial outcomes
- Reviewing project profitability, cash flow, costing and forecasting
- Improving and embedding project finance processes
- Forecasting and providing meaningful financial analysis
- Supporting commercial decision-making across the studio
- Overseeing the finance requirements of the Canberra and New Zealand operations
- Provide leadership and development across the local finance function
About you
You will be a confident and commercially minded finance professional who can build credibility with senior stakeholders and bring structure to a project-led environment.
Ideally, you will bring:
- Strong accounting experience within a project-based environment
- Exposure to construction, engineering, infrastructure, architecture, professional services or similar
- Strong project accounting, forecasting and commercial analysis capability
- Confident partnering with senior stakeholders and influencing outcomes
- Experience improving financial processes and frameworks
- Experience mentoring or developing junior finance professionals
- CA or CPA qualification is strongly preferred, although demonstrated capability will also be considered
Why COX?
This is an opportunity to make the role your own.
You will join a collaborative, contemporary studio with direct access to senior decision-makers and the opportunity to shape how finance supports the business. As stronger processes are established, the role offers genuine scope to move further into commercial partnering and become an influential member of the Canberra studio.
COX offers genuine flexibility built on trust, including one day working from home alongside practical flexibility around family and personal commitments.
