Work options: Hybrid

Esri Australia is looking for an experienced Commercial Manager to take ownership of the commercial discipline surrounding our corporate technology investment and expenditure.

This newly created role is for someone who combines strong financial capability with commercial judgement and a practical, hands-on approach. You don't need to be a technology specialist, but you will need to be comfortable getting across a varied technology cost base and working with ITS leaders, Finance and suppliers to understand the commercial picture and improve outcomes. Experience with technology vendors, suppliers, contract or investment decisions would be advantageous, but isn’t essential.

About the role

You will bring together the financial and commercial picture, identify where value is being lost or opportunities exist, and help the business make stronger, evidence-based decisions.

Initially focused on Australia, you will work closely with our Information Technology Services (ITS) leadership, Finance, Legal & Commercial and technology vendors to establish much greater visibility and control across our technology expenditure. The scope has the potential to broaden across the wider group over time.

This isn't a role where everything is already neatly packaged for you. You will need to be comfortable getting into the detail, working across dispersed information, interrogating invoices and contracts, building the commercial picture and then turning that analysis into action.

You'll take the lead on the commercial management of our technology expenditure, vendors and renewals, while supporting the commercial assessment of technology investment decisions.

Your remit will include:

- Building and maintaining a consolidated view of technology spend, commitments and cost drivers, initially across Australia.

- Developing practical budgets and forecasts across technology operating expenditure, capital expenditure, projects and committed renewals.
- Establishing greater visibility of technology vendors, contracts, commitments and renewal dates.
- Analysing contracts, invoices, pricing, usage and service requirements to identify duplication, under-utilisation, cost leakage and commercial opportunities.
- Supporting vendor negotiations, sourcing decisions and contract renewals through commercial analysis, scenario modelling and total-cost assessment.
- Identifying and tracking measurable savings, avoided costs and improved commercial outcomes against an agreed baseline.
- Developing practical commercial frameworks for assessing technology investments, including business cases, financial models, implementation costs, ongoing operating impacts, benefits and ROI.
- Developing a transparent methodology for allocating and recharging shared technology costs.
- Improving the connection between vendor, contract, purchase order, invoice and financial information.
- Creating fit-for-purpose commercial processes around renewals, forecasting, investment approvals and vendor decisions, without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.

Importantly, ITS continues to own technology strategy, service delivery and technical decisions. Your expertise will be in making sure the commercial and financial dimensions of those decisions are properly understood and managed.

About You

We are looking for someone with strong financial and commercial capability who is pragmatic,

curious and comfortable getting into the detail. You might come from commercial finance, management accounting, financial control or finance business partnering. What's more important than your specific background is your ability to understand a commercial problem, work through imperfect information and turn financial analysis into practical action.

Experience with technology expenditure, suppliers or vendor management would be practical, but it isn’t essential. You'll need the confidence to work directly with operational leaders and external suppliers, challenge assumptions and recommend sensible commercial outcomes.

- Strong financial analysis and modelling capability, including budgeting, forecasting, scenario analysis, cost allocation and business cases.
- Advanced Excel capability and the confidence to work through incomplete or dispersed data to establish a reliable baseline.
- The confidence to challenge assumptions, influence stakeholders and recommend commercial outcomes without relying on formal authority.
- A genuinely hands-on approach. You'll be comfortable getting into source data, invoices, contracts and spreadsheets rather than simply receiving finished analysis from others.
- The ability to translate complex financial and commercial analysis into straightforward recommendations for non-finance stakeholders.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in commerce, finance, procurement, business, technology management or a related discipline.
- Experience operating across multiple entities or countries would also be advantageous.
