Lead clients, develop people and help shape the future of the team The opportunity
At Manager level, the right role should offer more than a portfolio and a list of deadlines. It should give you the trust, access and influence to improve client outcomes, develop capable people and contribute to the direction of the practice.
Accru Melbourne is seeking an experienced Audit Manager with a minimum of six years’
experience to lead complex engagements, manage a significant client portfolio and help shape the continued development of our Audit team.
You will work directly with Directors and Partners, lead and mentor team members, contribute to divisional strategy and help identify opportunities to grow and improve the services we provide.
What You’ll Do In this role, you will:
- Manage a substantial portfolio incorporating large and more complicated client groups
- Lead large and complex audit engagements from planning through to sign-off readiness
- Act as a trusted point of contact for clients on day-to-day and higher-level audit matters
- Identify significant issues, develop a response and provide clear advice to clients
- Ensure engagements are delivered to a high standard and within agreed budgets and timeframes
- Review audit files, financial statements and team output before final sign-off
- Manage workflow, delegation and resourcing across the team
- Oversee engagement progress, billing and portfolio performance
- Coach, mentor and provide technical support to Senior, Intermediate and Graduate team members
- Conduct regular staff check-ins and lead performance and development conversations
- Work with Directors and Partners to maintain and improve audit quality
- Lead or contribute to tendering and new business opportunities
- Identify value-adding opportunities for clients
- Contribute to divisional strategy, recruitment, projects and broader firm initiatives
- Build a technical specialisation or area of market expertise
Why Accru Melbourne? This is an opportunity to lead within a firm that is large enough to provide sophisticated work and meaningful career opportunities, but small enough for your impact to be recognised.
You Can Expect
- Direct influence: Work closely with Directors and Partners and contribute to decisions affecting clients, people and the division
- A visible route forward: Build the commercial, leadership and strategic experience required for future senior leadership opportunities
- Ownership without unnecessary layers: Maintain close oversight of your clients and engagements, with the authority to make a meaningful difference
- Space to build your profile: Develop a technical niche, lead divisional initiatives and produce thought leadership for professional channels such as LinkedIn
- A strong client connection: Work on-site with clients, understand their operations and become a trusted adviser rather than a distant reviewer
- A cohesive and grounded team: Lead people who collaborate, offer help freely and share responsibility across different levels
- A culture that remains human: The team works hard, but humour, participation and genuine connection are part of its day-to-day rhythm
- Firm and team connection: Join two whole-of-firm gatherings and two dedicated Audit team events each year, along with the end-of-year celebration
- A proper year-end break: Recharge during the two-week Christmas and New Year office closure
Life at Accru Melbourne We believe strong results come from capable people who feel trusted, connected and able to contribute. At Accru Melbourne, you can build close relationships with clients, work alongside accessible senior leaders and take on responsibilities that may take longer to reach in a larger firm.
You will be encouraged to contribute ideas, develop your qualified profile and play an active part in the life of the team and the wider business.
Our Audit team is professional and client-focused, but it does not take itself too seriously. People share responsibility, collaborate closely and bring humour into the working day. Whether you are leading an engagement, chairing a team meeting, supporting a colleague or contributing a thought leadership idea, there is room to be seen and heard.
About You
You will bring
- A minimum of six years’ external audit experience
- An undergraduate degree in accounting, commerce or a related discipline
- CA or CPA qualification
- Strong technical knowledge of auditing and accounting standards
- Demonstrated experience leading large or complex audit engagements
- Experience managing a portfolio, engagement budgets, workflow and billing
- Strong file review and quality-management capability
- A track record of developing, mentoring and providing feedback to team members
- The confidence to advise clients and discuss significant matters with senior stakeholders
- Commercial awareness and the ability to recognise broader client needs
- A collaborative leadership style that combines high standards with practical support
- An interest in contributing beyond your own portfolio to team strategy, business development and firm initiatives
What Success Looks Like You will deliver consistently high-quality audit outcomes while strengthening the people around you. Clients will value your judgement and responsiveness, team members will seek out your guidance, and senior leaders will trust you to help drive the division forward. Looking for more room to lead?
If you want sophisticated work, direct access to decision-makers and a clearer opportunity to shape both your team and your own career, we would like to hear from you.
Apply now and bring your experience to a firm where it can make a visible difference.
