Role Overview Mercor is assembling an elite panel of Chemistry Domain Experts to "red-team" frontier AI models. The goal is to test whether an AI can correctly judge the misuse potential of a technical request—answering legitimate chemistry questions fully while safely refusing genuinely dangerous or adversarial ones (e.g., toxicological agents, hazardous compounds, or controlled substances).

What You’ll Do

- Prompt Engineering: Write challenging, single-turn technical prompts in your domain, labeled across three levels: benign, dual-use, and adversarial.
- Model Evaluation: Evaluate the AI's responses against a defined safety policy standard, judging whether each request was handled safely and correctly.
- Reference Drafting: Write the "reference answer"—what a correct, safe response should look like, providing the exact technical reasoning.

Candidate Profile

- Domain Expertise: Hands-on skilled experience in Synthesis, Analytical Chemistry, or Chemical Safety.
- Relevant Backgrounds: Chemical Defense Researcher (toxicology/medical countermeasures), Synthetic/Process Chemist, Analytical Chemist, Industrial Hygienist,



or Forensic/Toxicological Chemist.
- Writing & Communication: This is writing-intensive work. Every judgment requires a written rationale that a non-specialist can follow. (Prior technical writing, published research, or expert witness experience is a strong signal).
- Bonus: Prior AI evaluation or red-teaming experience is preferred but not required.

Engagement Details & Compensation

- Work Structure: 100% remote, independent contractor position.
- Compensation: Highly competitive flat rate of $65.00 to $75.00 per task.
- Payments: Processed securely and weekly via Stripe or Wise based on completed tasks.
