About The Company

Softtest Pays Pty is seeking skilled technology professionals for a data engineering opportunity supporting complex data initiatives in a cloud environment. The role focuses on building reliable data processes and preparing information for effective storage, analysis, and visualisation. You will contribute to solutions that help teams access and use data efficiently, while working with cloud infrastructure, engineering services, storage technologies, and analytics platforms.

This position is based in Australia and is open only to Australian citizens residing in Australia. Candidates must hold a current Australian Government Baseline security clearance or be willing and eligible to obtain one. Applicants should be prepared to meet the relevant requirements associated with working in a security-cleared environment.

About The Role

As a data engineering professional, you will design, develop, and support ETL and ELT processes that move and transform data across complex and large-scale environments. You will work with cloud-based platforms and computational services to create data that is dependable, accessible, and optimised for downstream use. This includes considering how data is structured, stored, and prepared to support query performance across relevant platforms.

The role involves close collaboration with engineering, storage, and analytics teams. You will help connect data workflows with the broader cloud infrastructure and contribute to practical solutions for data movement, transformation, and visualisation. The successful candidate will bring sound technical judgement, an understanding of distributed data processing,

and the ability to work across a range of services and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Candidates should have demonstrated experience developing ETL or ELT processes for complex and/or large data movement, transformation, or visualisation, particularly in a cloud environment. This is the primary selection criterion and represents 50% of the assessment.

Experience preparing data to support query performance in cloud compute engines is also required. Relevant technologies and platforms may include distributed computing engines such as Spark, graph databases, and Azure SQL. This criterion represents 25% of the assessment.

Applicants must also have experience working with engineering, storage, and analytics services within cloud infrastructure. This criterion represents 25% of the assessment. Experience with Azure Data Factory and Databricks is desirable, as is knowledge of data lakes and lakehouses. Strong communication and collaboration skills, careful attention to data quality, and a practical approach to solving technical problems will be valuable in this role.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain ETL and ELT workflows to move, transform, and prepare data for operational and analytical use.

Design processes that can support complex datasets and large volumes of data in cloud environments. Apply suitable data structures and processing approaches to improve usability and query performance across cloud compute platforms.

Work with engineering, storage, and analytics services to support the delivery and operation of data solutions. Collaborate with technical colleagues and stakeholders to understand requirements, resolve data issues, and contribute to effective visualisation and analysis outcomes. Where applicable, use tools such as Spark, Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, and Databricks.

Support the use of data lake and lakehouse approaches, and help ensure that data workflows are maintainable, reliable, and aligned with project needs.

Benefits

This opportunity offers the chance to contribute to substantial cloud data engineering work and apply your expertise across data processing, storage, and analytics. You will collaborate with professionals working across related technical disciplines and have the opportunity to use contemporary cloud and distributed computing technologies. Further engagement details, including work arrangements and any role-specific benefits, can be discussed during the recruitment process.

Equal Opportunity

Softtest Pays Pty is committed to fair and respectful recruitment. Candidates will be considered on their relevant skills, experience, and eligibility for the position. Applicants must be Australian citizens residing in Australia and must hold, or be willing and eligible to obtain, a valid Baseline security clearance.
