Data Engineering & Data Management – Presales and Delivery

Role Overview

This is a senior, hands-on, client-facing role for a data engineer with a consulting mindset. It combines two key functions:

- Presales Consultant – acting as the data management subject matter expert in the sales cycle, shaping solutions, scoping engagements and building client confidence.
- Delivery Consultant – designing, building and implementing data management solutions such as Ataccama ONE, covering data quality, master and reference data, data catalogue and lineage, and data observability, integrated into clients' data platforms.

This is not a sales role and carries no individual sales quota. You will work alongside our Business Development and Account Directors to win the right work, then help deliver it. You will report to the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Presales

- Support BDMs and Account Directors in client meetings, discovery workshops and solution presentations as the technical lead for data management and data engineering.
- Assess client data landscapes and translate requirements into solution designs, scope, effort estimates and Statements of Work.
- Build and run product demonstrations and proof-of-concepts for ISV data management solutions, in partnership with vendor presales teams.
- Contribute to proposals, RFP/tender responses and reusable presales collateral.




- Ensure a clean handover from presales to delivery so that what is sold can be delivered.

Delivery – Data Management Implementation

- Design, install, configure and implement data management platforms, with a focus data quality, MDM, reference data management, catalogue and observability.
- Profile source data, then build data quality rules, cleansing, standardisation, matching, merging and deduplication logic.
- Design master data models, survivorship rules and integration patterns for customer, product, supplier and other key domains.
- Configure data catalogue, metadata and lineage capabilities, and set up data quality monitoring, scorecards and dashboards.

Delivery – Data Engineering

- Build and optimise data pipelines and integrations, connecting data management platforms to source systems, data warehouses and data lakes.
- Work across cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric/Azure, AWS and Google Cloud.
- Write production-quality SQL and Python, and apply engineering practices including version control, CI/CD, automated testing and documentation.
- Troubleshoot performance, tune solutions, and support testing, deployment and handover to client operations teams.

Delivery – Advisory

- Work with data owners, stewards and business stakeholders to define data quality KPIs, governance roles and operating processes.
- Help clients meet regulatory and reporting obligations where data quality and lineage matter, such as APRA CPS 230 and CPG 235, BCBS 239 and the Privacy Act.




- Support AI and analytics initiatives by making sure the data feeding them is trusted, governed and fit for purpose.
- Produce clear deliverables – designs, build documentation and runbooks – and present progress and findings to technical and executive audiences.
- Manage engagement scope, timelines and quality, and identify follow-on opportunities for the account team.

Practice Development

- Help build Vectra's data management practice through implementation methodologies, templates, reusable rule libraries and accelerators.
- Mentor junior consultants and engineers, and maintain current vendor certifications.

What We're Looking For

- 7+ years in data engineering, data management or data platform roles, including at least 3 years in consulting, professional services or client-facing delivery.
- Hands-on implementation experience with data management platforms.
- Deep practical knowledge of data quality, MDM, reference data, metadata management and lineage.
- Strong SQL and Python, plus experience with ETL/ELT tools and orchestration (e.g. dbt, Airflow, Azure Data Factory) and relational and cloud data platforms.
- Understanding of data governance frameworks and practice, such as DAMA-DMBOK.
- Experience in data-intensive, regulated industries such as financial services, insurance, healthcare or government is highly regarded.
- Proven ability to run workshops, scope engagements and write clear Statements of Work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the confidence to explain technical solutions to business stakeholders.
