Who We Are (And Why You’ll Want In)

Our data is our product. Ecommerce Equation gives store owners the numbers they use to make real decisions about their business, and trust in those numbers comes first. We’re a small team that thinks like product engineers. We talk to the people who use what we build, we own outcomes, and we ship value to customers often in small releases. When the accuracy of customer figures competes with a new feature, accuracy wins.

Founded by Jay Wright, Ecommerce Equation is the growth engine behind some of Australia’s and the US’s most ambitious online brands. We’re not here to hand out fluff; we’re here to help brands grow profitably, sustainably, and smart. Our thing? Blending world-class strategy with real-world implementation.

Reporting to our Head of Engineering, you’ll work alongside our Sydney-based Product and Engineering team to build and scale our growing platform. As our Full Stack Software Engineer, you’ll build member-facing features for the EE portal end to end, from the data model to the screen.

This role sits at the intersection of product, design and engineering. As our platform continues to grow, you’ll play a key role in bringing our product roadmap to life, building features that directly improve the experience of our members. You’ll work across the full stack, delivering small, safe and well-tested releases using AI-first development practices, strong engineering judgement and systems thinking.

What you’ll own

- Features, end to end: Taking features from agreed specification to production across the data model, Node.js APIs and React UI, with tests, monitoring and a protected release process in place. You’ll deliver frequent, incremental releases while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.
- Shaping and slicing the work: Collaborating with product and design to shape features before development,

understand the outcomes we’re trying to achieve and break work into small, manageable releases. You’ll consider customer feedback and product performance to continuously improve what we build.
- Keeping the codebase safe to change: Protecting quality as our pace increases, through tests, zero-downtime migrations, our shared component library, and critical review of every change, including AI-generated code.
- Interfaces members can rely on: Building responsive, accessible and high-performing dashboards, tables and charts that handle large datasets efficiently, meet WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards and deliver a seamless member experience.

How we work

- AI drives how we code, review and make decisions. You’ll direct AI coding agents using spec-driven development, with acceptance criteria agreed before build, and you’ll help improve the markdown and skill files that drive our AI pipeline.
- Every change goes through a reviewed pull request, with AI-assisted review as well. PRs are reviewed within one working day, and AI-generated code is held to the same standard as hand-written code.
- We deploy to AWS through CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions, with schema changes shipped with zero downtime.
- Member-reported bugs are triaged within one business day.
- Decisions are written down, and incident reviews are blameless.
- We work in person from our Sydney office.

What you bring

- Proven experience building and shipping production full-stack web applications
- Strong TypeScript across the stack,

including Node.js APIs and React UIs built with Material UI and Tailwind CSS
- Solid PostgreSQL experience, including schema design and safe zero-downtime migrations
- Hands-on experience directing AI coding agents with spec-driven development: you write clear specs, verify the output with tests, and know when not to trust it
- Automated testing as part of how you build, using tools such as Vitest or Jest and Playwright or Cypress
- Experience shipping behind feature flags and deploying to AWS through CI/CD pipelines, ideally GitHub Actions
- A product mindset: you care about what a feature achieves, not just that it shipped, and you can explain trade-offs, effort and risk to product and design in plain language
- A proactive, problem-solving mindset, with the autonomy to prioritise and stay organised in a fast-evolving market
- A habit of working in public, and a genuine appreciation for ADRs and shared documentation
- Nice to have: experience with ecommerce platforms, member portals or SaaS products

Why Join Ecommerce Equation?
