About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Legal Assistant to join our Employment team in the Melbourne office. In this role you will provide high-level administrative support to a Partner and 4 Associates within a close-knit team who work on a high volume of interesting, fast-paced matters.
Your responsibilities will include billing, diary and email management, communicating with clients; matter management, involvement in business development activities, and working collaboratively with the other Legal Assistant to provide seamless, coordinated support across the team.
You will be joining a close-knit, approachable and hard-working team, many of whom have worked together for a long time. Our Melbourne office offers a welcoming,
inclusive and high-performing workplace where people genuinely enjoy working together and teamwork is valued. You'll become part of a collaborative team that works together to achieve shared success, supports one another in delivering exceptional service, and enjoys firm-funded social events and opportunities to connect with colleagues.
This is a fantastic opportunity to make the role your own.
About You
You have 2–3 years' experience as an assistant, ideally in a fast-paced legal environment. You have strong Microsoft 365 skills, particularly in Word and Outlook, where you have experience managing inboxes and calendars on behalf of others.
You are highly collaborative and proactive - you think ahead, see solutions not problems, and want to see the whole team succeed. You build strong relationships and communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders, both internally and externally. You are confident, approachable, and take pride in delivering exceptional service.
Most importantly, you are hard-working with strong technical skills and reliability, and you enjoy being part of a supportive team. You bring a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and energetic approach to everything you do, contributing to a culture where people work together to achieve great outcomes.
Working at JWS
Collaboration is at the heart of how we work. We value shared success, encourage knowledge-sharing, and support one another to achieve the best outcomes for our clients and colleagues.
We're equally committed to the wellbeing and development of our people.
We'll take the time to understand your career goals and provide the support, opportunities, and guidance you need to grow and thrive. It's this people-first approach that has helped us become one of Australia's leading independent law firms and a place where talented people choose to build rewarding, long-term careers.
We pride ourselves on creating a diverse and inclusive workplace, where our differences are also our strength. If you are interested in this role and our firm (but don’t necessarily meet every single requirement in this advertisement), we encourage you to contact us to discuss potential opportunities.
What We offer:
- A collegiate and inclusive culture, where teams work closely across offices and practice groups to achieve shared success.
- Exposure to high-quality work, supported by experienced mentors who are genuinely invested in your professional growth and development.
- A comprehensive benefits package, including competitive remuneration, wellbeing initiatives, social events, and opportunities to connect with colleagues across the firm.
- Ongoing learning and career development through structured training programs and employee recognition initiatives.
If you're looking for a rewarding opportunity where you can contribute, grow, and build a long-term career with one of Australia's leading independent law firms, we'd love to hear from you.
We encourage the best people - regardless of race, religion, or belief if any, gender, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, or age - to fulfil their professional aspirations with us. In particular, we would welcome applications from First Nations candidates.
