Principal Geologist - Wild Dog Project, Papua New GuineaGreat Pacific Gold Corp (TSXV: GPAC)
Brisbane-based · rotational roster weighted to site, East New Britain, PNG
Great Pacific Gold is drilling an epithermal gold and porphyry copper-gold system at Wild Dog in East New Britain, Papua New Guinea. We have rigs turning, a regional stream sediment and rock-chip programme running across the licence, and a greenfields pipeline behind it. We are looking for a Principal Geologist to own the geochemical and alteration side of that work.
Be clear about what this role is before you apply. It is a field role. You will spend a lot of your time on site and in the creeks, walking traverses with our geologists, looking at rock with them, and logging and sampling alongside them.
What you’ll do
- Work in the field with our geologists - traverses, mapping, rock-chip and stream sediment sampling, core logging - and set the standard by doing the work, not describing it
- Lead multi-element geochemistry across the project: survey design, pathfinder suites, indicator ratios, levelling, interpretation and QA/QC
- Own our spectral programme - SWIR/NIR interpretation, alteration mineralogy and the compositional vectors that come from it
- Build and defend the alteration framework for epithermal and porphyry environments - advanced argillic assemblages, lithocap architecture, overprinting relationships, and what they mean for where the next hole goes
- Design and run regional sampling programmes in genuinely difficult tropical terrain
- Set and hold sampling, data capture and database standards, including field digital capture and pXRF
- Work alongside our Principal Geoscientist – Mineral Systems and Geology Manager to turn geochemistry into drill targets
- Train and develop our Papua New Guinean geologists, and build capability that stays with the team
What we’re looking for
- Degree in geology or geochemistry; postgraduate qualifications well regarded
- Substantial experience as a geochemist or geoscientist on epithermal and/or porphyry Cu-Au systems, with targeting outcomes you can point to
- Strong applied skills in ioGAS, QGIS, spectral software (TSG or equivalent) and pXRF; Leapfrog an advantage
- Experience in Papua Recent Guinea, the southwest Pacific or comparable tropical, remote, community-sensitive operations is a significant advantage
- Someone who builds a team rather than works around it — able to bring national geologists along, take a technical view without needing to win the room, and deal straightforwardly with contractors, laboratories and landowner communities
- Physically fit for remote field work and comfortable on a rotational roster
What we offer A competitive remuneration package, superannuation, a short-term incentive against agreed KPIs, and participation in the Company’s equity incentive plans. Flights between Brisbane and site each rotation, accommodation and meals on site, and medical, emergency evacuation and workers compensation cover for your time in PNG. Twenty days annual leave in addition to rostered time off.
You will be working on a project at the point where the geology is still being worked out and good field work changes what gets drilled. There are not many of those left.
Applicants must have the right to work in Australia.
