Collections internship

Each year we offer an unpaid internship to support individuals in gaining hands-on skills in collections care and research. Our interns work in conjunction with our curator to provide learning opportunities that will enhance employability for those pursuing careers in museums, galleries and archives. The internship program is best suited to students or recent graduates. Possible careers may include: curators, gallery managers, registrars, conservators, educators, writers and installers.

Length and location: internships are approximately 4 months in duration with the possibility of extension. Applicants should be available on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays each week. The internship is expected to start in February 2027. The museum is located in Charlotte Street, Brisbane and will be the main location for the internship.

This internship is project-based. The project will focus on continuing to compile an accurate Queensland Survivor Database, as part of our collection. This database is utilised by all members of staff and may be expanded in the future.

It will consist of photographs, credit lines, video testimonies, biographies, locations and places of interest and other relevant information. The role may include research,

outreach to community members and researchers, as well as conducting oral history interviews.

Selection criteria:

- Passion for preserving cultural heritage
- Genuine interest in Holocaust history and social justice
- Experience with Canva and Google Drive (desirable)
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Drive to work independently and as part of a team
- Awareness concerning sensitive and trauma-related material

Application process: To apply, send a one-page cover letter and current CV (PDF and Word files are preferred) to [email protected]

Please describe why you are applying for the internship and in which areas you would like to gain further experience.

For more information about the role, please contact Dominique at the above email.

You will be notified of the outcome of your application in due course. If your application is progressed, we will contact you to organise a brief interview.

The successful applicant will be offered an internship placement in the program. Unsuccessful applicants should consider applying for our future internship projects to be advertised next year.

Applications close 30 November, 2026.
