Toorak

Role: Insolvency Manager (Strategic Recoveries)

Location: Toorak, Melbourne.

Work arrangement: Office-based, with flexibility required for urgent matters outside standard business hours.

Compensation: AUD 140,000-155,000 + Superannuation.

You must be able to commute to the office and have full Australian working rights; sponsorship is not available.

Join an international fintech providing flexible funding to SMEs, with operations across APAC and Europe. You'll focus on maximising creditor recoveries in formal insolvency processes while acting as second in charge to the Head of Strategic Recoveries APAC & UK.

What You'll Do

- Deputise for the Head of Strategic Recoveries, supervise and review work across Recoveries and Customer Care, and contribute technical insolvency insight to strategy.
- Represent the business at creditors' meetings, lodge proofs of debt and proxies, assess administrators' reports and DOCA proposals, and recommend and cast votes to maximise recoveries.
- Manage matters from referral to resolution, monitoring appointments and court proceedings, maintaining accurate files and meeting statutory deadlines. You'll report recovery forecasts, outcomes and write-off recommendations, and respond to urgent matters outside standard hours.
- Instruct external lawyers and insolvency practitioners, coordinate statutory demands and court enforcement, and assess and respond to unfair preference and other voidable transaction claims.
- Review security positions and PPSR registrations, and negotiate settlements within delegated authority. You'll protect existing stakeholder relationships; changing partnerships or owning business development is outside this role.
- Support insolvency and recovery matters in Singapore and New Zealand,

maintaining compliance with relevant policies and obligations across jurisdictions.

Who We're Looking For

You'll bring established formal-insolvency capability, careful judgement and a professional, discreet approach-this is not a role in which to learn insolvency fundamentals.

Must-Haves:

- Hands-on corporate and personal insolvency experience gained in an insolvency practice, as an insolvency lawyer, or in a lender, finance or credit role with substantial formal-insolvency exposure. Insurance experience alone is not a substitute.
- Working knowledge of the Corporations Act and Bankruptcy Act across voluntary administration, DOCA, liquidation, receivership, bankruptcy and pre-insolvency, including relevant court recovery processes and voidable transaction claims.
- Practical experience assessing administrators' reports and DOCA proposals, lodging proofs of debt and proxies, and attending and voting at creditors' meetings.
- Working knowledge of PPSA security interests and priority, with practical PPSR capability and sound judgement in settlement negotiations and instructions to external advisers.
- Strong Excel tracking and reporting skills, alongside clear, accurate file notes, instructions to lawyers and practitioners, and management reporting.

Nice-To-Haves:

- Experience owning a book of insolvency and recovery matters through to resolution, coordinating advisers and internal teams against statutory deadlines.

- The judgement to act as a hands-on second in charge, supervise and review others' work, and recognise when to escalate decisions beyond your delegated authority. Your capability matters more than years served or management title.
- Exposure to New Zealand or Singapore insolvency processes.
- A degree in law, commerce or accounting, and completion of the ARITA Insolvency Education Program or equivalent.
