About the Role

Reporting to the Finance and Corporate Performance Manager, the Financial Controller provides leadership to the Finance team, ensuring the integrity, accuracy and compliance of Council's financial information, systems and processes.

The Financial Controller is responsible for Council’s accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance and financial governance functions. This role is the opportunity to lead a dedicated team, influence organisational outcomes and help guide the financial future of a growing community. Working closely with senior leaders across the organisation, the Financial Controller provides trusted advice, drives continuous improvement initiatives and plays a key role in supporting strategic decision-making.

Key areas of responsibility include:

- Lead and oversee Council's accounting,



financial reporting and control functions

- Manage statutory reporting, compliance obligations and external audit processes

- Maintain treasury activities, investments and financial risk management

- Drive continuous improvement of financial systems and processes

- Lead, coach and support a high-performing accounting team

To be successful in this role, you will need:

- Degree in Business Finance or Accounting (or equivalent) with 5+ years of relevant experience

- CPA or CA qualification highly regarded

- Demonstrated experience in the application of Australian Accounting Standards and Regulations

- Knowledge of Local Government Act, Financial Management Regulations and Standards relevant to the position

- Proven ability to provide high-level financial analysis, reporting and expert advice

- Supportive and collaborative leadership skills to foster professional development and performance delivery

- Proficient with computer-based systems and databases (inc. Microsoft 365 and Business Central)

- A team-focused attitude with strong communication and problem-solving skills
