Ready to take the next step in your civil construction career?
SEM Group is a proudly South Australian-owned civil engineering and construction business, with 50 years of experience delivering quality projects across South Australia. Our operations span civil construction, project management, and the coordination of complex contracting services across major infrastructure, water, and development projects.
We are currently seeking a motivated and capable Civil Site Supervisor to join our Adelaide-based team. This is a site-based leadership role, responsible for coordinating day-to-day construction activities and leading crews to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Importantly, you don’t necessarily need previous experience in a formal Site Supervisor role. We’re interested in hearing from experienced civil construction workers, Leading Hands, and those who have previously coordinated or led small crews and are ready to take the next step into a broader leadership position.
We value practical experience, a strong work ethic, initiative, and the ability to bring people together to get the job done.
? What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone with a solid background in civil construction and the confidence to coordinate people, plant and daily site activities. Experience across one or more of the following areas would be highly regarded:
- Water and wastewater infrastructure, including sewer and water reticulation.
- Subdivisions and land development.
- Bulk earthworks.
- Road construction and reconstruction.
- Stormwater drainage.
?️ Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise SEM crews,
subcontractors and suppliers to meet project requirements.
- Organise and oversee daily site activities, ensuring works are completed safely and efficiently.
- Read, interpret and communicate construction drawings and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, SEM procedures and site-specific safety requirements, working collaboratively with our HSEQ team.
- Manage plant, labour and materials to support effective project delivery.
- Provide positive leadership and direction to site personnel, promoting a safe and productive work environment.
- Accurately record and manage contract works, variations and day works.
- Monitor progress and deliver works in accordance with project programs, budgets, quality requirements and client expectations.
? About You
You may already be working as a Site Supervisor, Leading Hand, Civil Construction Worker or in another hands-on role where you’ve taken responsibility for coordinating people and work activities. You’ll ideally bring:
- Practical experience within the civil construction industry.
- Experience leading, coordinating or working closely with small crews.
- A sound understanding of civil construction methods, equipment and site operations.
- The ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Valuable organisational skills and the ability to plan and prioritise daily activities.
- Effective communication and people skills.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and getting the job done.
- An understanding of construction costs, productivity and project requirements.
Previous experience in a formal Site Supervisor position is desirable but not essential. SEM is willing to consider candidates with the right practical experience, attitude and leadership potential who are ready to develop into the role.
? What We Offer
- Full-time, permanent employment with attractive remuneration.
- Company vehicle and mobile phone provided.
- Opportunity to work on diverse civil construction and infrastructure projects across South Australia.
- A supportive, team-oriented and values-driven working environment.
Interested?
If you have a background in civil construction and are ready to take the next step in your career, we’d love to hear from you!
You don’t need to have held the title of Site Supervisor to be considered. We’re interested in what you can bring to the team and what you’re ready to achieve.
As an employer who embraces equal opportunity and diversity, we encourage applications from women and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Please note:
- Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
- Applicants must have the right to work in Australia.
- The successful candidate will be required to complete a pre-employment medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing.
