About the role

Auslife Disability Care is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and experienced DSW and a Mental Health Support Worker to provide dedicated support to NDIS participants living with schizoaffective disorder and other mental health conditions in a Supported Independent Living (SIL) home located in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

The successful candidate will have the skills and experience to deliver consistent, person-centred support, assisting participants with daily living activities, emotional regulation, and participation in meaningful community and recreational activities.

This role plays an important part in maintaining a secure, supportive, and structured living environment while promoting participants’ independence, dignity, emotional well-being, and overall quality of life.

Key responsibilities

- Assist with hygiene, prompting self-care routines, and ensuring a safe living environment

- Implement de-escalation strategies, trauma-informed care, and behaviour management plans to support the participant during emotional distress

- Support with light cleaning, laundry, and meal preparation while promoting independent living skills

- Encourage and monitor medication compliance and accompany the participant to medical appointments if needed





- Encourage participation in social and recreational activities, assisting in building confidence and meaningful connections

- Be vigilant in recognising safety concerns, mitigating risks, and following appropriate incident response procedures

- Foster a trusting and supportive relationship to help reduce anxiety and social isolation

About you

- Certificate III or IV in Mental Health, Disability, Individual Support, or Community Services (or relevant experience)

- Prior experience supporting individuals with schizoaffective disorder, schizophrenia, or complex mental health conditions is highly desirable

- Valid Australian driver's license and a reliable vehicle (preferred)

- NDIS Worker Screening Check (Required)

- Working with Children Check (Required)

- First Aid & CPR Certification (Required)

- National Police Check (Required)

- Strong communication, patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure

- Experience with positive behaviour support (PBS), de-escalation techniques, and crisis intervention (preferred)

- Full working rights in Australia
