AEMO at the Heart of Energy
AEMO is Australia’s independent energy system and market operator and system planner. AEMO’s purpose is to ensure safe, reliable and affordable energy today, and enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians. Australian governments are now committed to a net zero economy for Australia by 2050 and our vision is to enable this. We have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to co-design the future of our energy systems, and our core values revolve around character, commitment, and connection. Join us as we contribute to this significant transition in the energy sector.
About the role
As a Senior Engineer within the Grid Connections and Compliance team, you will play a key role in shaping the future of Western Australia's power system. Working at the forefront of the energy transition, you will lead the development and application of Generator Performance Standards (GPS), facilitate the connection of new generation to the South-West Interconnect System (SWIS), and ensure ongoing compliance with technical requirements.
Supporting the security, reliability and resilience of the SWIS, you will provide expert engineering advice, undertake complex technical assessment, and collaborate with industry stakeholders to deliver practical solutions to emerging power system challenges. Through your expertise, you will help enable a secure, sustainable and increasingly renewable electricity system for Western Australia.
What you will be doing
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of Generator Performance Standards frameworks, technical methodologies and assessment processes across the SWIS.
- Provide specialist technical advice and undertake complex assessments of new and existing generating systems to support connection, compliance, and power system security outcomes.
- Lead and support commissioning and compliance activities associated with the generator registration and connection process.
- Partner with Network Providers, Market Participants, regulators and industry stakeholders to negotiate, implement and maintain generator performance standards.
- Investigate generator performance issues and compliance matters, developing practical solutions and remediation strategies to address technical and operational risks.
- Contribute to market and regulatory reform initiatives by providing expert input into rule changes, policy development and industry best practices related to generator performance.
- Act as a trusted subject matter expert, mentoring others, supporting operational teams and driving continuous improvement initiatives across generator connection and compliance activities.
