ROLE – Senior Mechanical Engineer

My client is a fast-growing deep-tech startup developing a novel manufacturing process. They are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Sydney on a permanent basis and take ownership of a critical high-precision placement module.

The role
Own a high-precision placement module, including its interfaces, for a novel semiconductor manufacturing machine.
Design mechanisms that hold sub-micron accuracy.
Develop novel designs for nanometer-scale stability, accuracy and repeatability, accounting for thermal expansion, vibration and structural response.
Apply precision design fundamentals: design for stiffness, flexure mechanisms, exact constraint design, metrology loop isolation and material selection.
Own and quantify the error budget for your module.
Run structural, modal and thermal FEA, tolerance studies and perform hand calculations.
Build, test and verify your own prototypes.
Produce engineering data packs with drawings,



GD&T; and documented design rationale.

About you
Senior-level mechanical engineer with hands-on experience designing mechanical placement or imprint processes in semiconductor tooling.
Experience with tools such as hybrid or thermocompression bonding heads, nanoimprint lithography, wafer-to-wafer bonding and bond alignment, flip-chip and advanced die attach, or contact and proximity mask aligners.
Proven record of designing, building and verifying a high-load precision mechanism that holds sub-micron accuracy.
Led projects from concept and prototype through to a product or production tool.

Wet processing and corrosive chemical handling.
