Third Rail Café is seeking a skilled, experienced and passionate Chef to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis. We operate a café with a commercial kitchen, table service and licensed alcohol service, providing customers with a quality dining experience.
Key responsibilities
Plan, develop and prepare a variety of breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes
Prepare and cook meals to a consistently high standard
Assist with menu planning, seasonal menu changes and the introduction of new dishes
Monitor food quality, presentation, portion control and consistency
Manage kitchen stock, ingredient ordering and inventory control
Monitor food costs, wastage and kitchen efficiency
Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen facilities and equipment
Coordinate kitchen operations during busy service periods
Train and supervise junior kitchen staff where required
About you
Relevant commercial cookery qualifications or equivalent relevant professional experience
Demonstrated experience working as a Chef in a commercial kitchen
Robust knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and kitchen operations
Experience preparing breakfast, brunch and contemporary café-style meals
Knowledge of food safety and hygiene requirements
Strong organisational and time-management skills
Ability to work effectively in a busy kitchen environment
Good communication and teamwork skills
Flexibility to work weekends and public holidays as required
