Director of Product Engineering - Enterprise AI Platform | Sydney ONLY (hybrid)
Salary (open): Base + Super + Bonus + Shares
THE SITUATION
The AI tools are already in place. The hard part now is getting people to use them every day, without breaking the rules of a heavily regulated business. This role runs that. You will lead the team and the platform behind it, and stay close enough to the engineering to challenge it.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Lead a team of engineers, product managers and delivery leads
Spend about a third of your time in the detail: agent design, architecture, integration choices
Decide what to build, buy or partner on, with engineers in the room
Turn the best team-level AI solutions into something the whole business can safely use
Work with risk and security so the business moves rapid and stays in control




Be judged on real adoption and business impact, not how many tools you launched
WHO WE WANT TO MEET
15+ years, mostly hands-on (ML, data science or data-adjacent engineering) before moving into leadership
Still hands-on within the last 3 to 5 years, and able to hold your own with senior engineers
Rolled out GenAI or agent solutions at scale in a large, highly regulated, complex setting
Built strong teams and kept the hiring bar high
Can explain trade-offs to execs, engineers and risk teams equally well
Uses AI tools daily and keeps up with how fast the space moves
WHO THIS ISN'T FOR
Careers built on strategy, governance, CoE or delivery coordination
Side-project apps and weekend builds. Everyone has one. We want production experience.
