About HorizonOne Recruitment

HorizonOne Recruitment is a Canberra-based recruitment agency connecting talented professionals with rewarding career opportunities across government and the private sector.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from experienced HR professionals for a range of upcoming People and Culture roles with our federal government clients.

Registering your interest now puts you at the front of the queue when these roles open.

The Opportunity

We're expecting several non-ongoing APS 6 People and Culture roles to come up with a Canberra-based federal government agency, working in a small team with a positive and supportive culture.

These are broad, hands-on roles where you'll use a mix of skills across WHS, rehabilitation, learning and development, workforce planning, performance and conduct, and reconciliation initiatives.

You don't need to be an expert in every area. Strength in a few, and a willingness to have a go at the rest, is what counts.

You’ll have the chance to:

- Broaden your HR skills across a wide mix of work rather than sitting in one narrow lane
- Have your advice is heard and acted on in a small, supportive team
- Have access to hybrid working from a Canberra base, so you get a valuable balance of team time and focus time
- Lead real projects, from the graduate program and corporate induction to wellbeing initiatives
- Grow in your career, with some roles including coaching and supervising a small team

The Role

You'll provide advice, coordination and support to managers and employees across a range of people and culture functions, including:

- Delivering rehabilitation case management (compensable and non-compensable), including early intervention, and advising on WHS matters
- Supporting WHS reporting and helping deliver wellbeing strategies, employee surveys and mental health initiatives
- Coordinating learning and development, including the training calendar, graduate program, corporate induction and the learning system

- Supporting workforce planning initiatives, monitoring progress and preparing reports for governance and decision-making
- Advising managers and employees on performance, conduct and workplace behaviour, including formal and informal processes
- Reviewing and improving policies, procedures and resources to keep them compliant and practical
- Building strong working relationships with managers, staff and external stakeholders

The Ideal Person

You're an HR all-rounder who enjoys variety and gives practical advice that helps people and managers get on with the job.

You're comfortable working independently, juggling competing priorities and making sound calls, while still being someone the team can lean on.

You will bring the following skills and experience:

- Experience delivering people and culture programs, services or advice across a mix of areas such as WHS, rehabilitation and injury management, L&D;, workforce planning, performance and conduct, workplace diversity or reconciliation initiatives
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparing reports, policies, procedures and correspondence
- Solid stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to give practical advice to employees, managers and external stakeholders
- A track record of managing competing priorities and delivering cases, projects or programs on time with limited supervision
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, including interpreting legislation, policy and data to spot risks and opportunities
- An Australian citizenship

Salary / Rate

- $100k – $110k + Super
- Non-ongoing contracts ranging from 6 – 12 months
- Canberra-based, with hybrid working arrangements
