Looking to pick up extra nursing shifts while making a difference to animal welfare?
Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS) is looking for casual Veterinary Nurses to join our veterinary team. If you enjoy variety, take initiative and care about providing quality care to dogs and cats, we’d love to hear from you.
About us
GAWS is a not-for-profit organisation providing pound, shelter and veterinary services to the Geelong region. Our veterinary team supports the health and wellbeing of animals in our care, alongside providing veterinary services to the community.
About the role
Working across our veterinary clinic and shelter, you’ll have the opportunity to support different areas of the team, depending on your skills, experience and training.
Your work may include:
- Assisting with surgery and providing nursing care.
- Supporting veterinary consultations.
- Providing care and treatment to shelter animals.
- Assisting with reception and client enquiries.
- Maintaining accurate animal records and clean, hygienic work areas.
- Working closely with our vets, nurses and animal care team.
These casual positions provide cover for leave and other staffing needs.
They may suit nurses looking for additional work alongside another role.
We anticipate opportunities for one to two shifts per week, however ongoing shifts will vary depending on operational needs and your availability.
Standard operating hours are generally 8.30 am to 4.30 pm.
About you
You’ll bring:
- Veterinary nursing experience, ideally with at least one year in the industry.
- A compassionate approach and commitment to animal welfare.
- Initiative and the ability to prioritise tasks in a busy environment.
- An understanding of your capabilities and confidence to ask for guidance when needed.
- Transparent communication skills and a practical, cooperative approach to teamwork.
- A friendly and professional manner with clients.
Previous shelter experience is welcome but isn’t essential. We’re also open to applications from newly qualified nurses who demonstrate strong initiative and readiness to work in a busy clinical environment.
