THE ROLE & WHY JOIN US
Joval Wines is seeking an experienced Area Business Manager to represent our premium wine portfolio across Sydney's inner-city on-premise market. This position requires specialised wine-product knowledge and the ability to apply that expertise in a business-to-business sales environment. You will work directly with restaurants, bars, hotels, sommeliers, beverage managers and other hospitality customers to assess their requirements, explain the characteristics and benefits of our wines, recommend suitable products and develop sales opportunities.
You will be responsible for understanding the technical attributes of the products you represent, identifying appropriate applications for individual wines, demonstrating product quality and differentiation, and providing informed recommendations that support customers' beverage programs and purchasing decisions.
Through regular customer visits, product consultations, tastings, presentations and commercial negotiations, you will develop new business and expand sales of the Joval Wines portfolio. You will also gather market intelligence, monitor competitor offerings,
identify changing customer requirements and provide feedback to support the company's sales and product strategies.
The role is based from our North Sydney office, with regular travel throughout the assigned inner-Sydney territory.
We offer:
- Full-time, permanent employment
- Competitive base salary from $85,000 plus superannuation, negotiable depending on relevant experience, wine expertise and qualifications.
- Performance-based bonus structure.
- Annual car allowance of $19,250.
- Annual wine allowance and staff pricing.
- Special pricing for friends and family.
- The opportunity to represent leading Australian and international wine brands.
- Three additional wellness days each year, in addition to annual leave.
- Access to The Harvest online platform, offering cashback and discounts from participating retailers, including The Iconic, Woolworths and JB Hi-Fi.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
The successful candidate will combine solid technical wine knowledge with proven sales capability, commercial judgement and the ability to advise professional customers on specialised products.
You will have:
- Demonstrated experience in wine sales, wine distribution, specialist product sales or a related business-to-business sales environment.
- In-depth knowledge of wine products, including grape varieties, wine regions, production methods, vintages,
sensory characteristics, quality attributes and food-pairing suitability.
- The ability to explain technical product information, demonstrate product differences and recommend suitable products in response to customer requirements.
- Experience conducting product presentations, tastings, demonstrations or technical product consultations that support sales outcomes.
- Proven ability to identify prospective customers, develop sales opportunities, negotiate commercial terms and achieve sales targets.
- Strong customer needs assessment, consultative selling, presentation and negotiation skills.
- Commercial awareness, including an understanding of pricing, discount structures, sales margins and account profitability.
- The ability to research competitors, monitor market developments and communicate relevant customer and product intelligence to management.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage customer visits, sales opportunities, records and reporting independently.
- Established connections within Sydney's hospitality and wine trade, or the ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships.
- A current and valid driver's licence and the ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned territory.
Candidates with relevant experience as a sommelier, wine merchant, beverage specialist, wine distributor or hospitality professional may be suitable where they can demonstrate the specialised product knowledge, customer advisory skills and commercial sales experience required for the position.
