The Opportunity

Reporting to the CFO, The Head of Finance will take ownership of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, cash flow and project accounting.

Leading a small finance team, this role works closely with senior leadership and project delivery teams to improve visibility across project costs, revenue, margins and cash.

A key focus will be ensuring WIP and project forecasts accurately reflect underlying performance. You will challenge cost-to-complete assumptions, scrutinise variations and claims, and identify emerging risks before they affect profitability.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys understanding the detail, working directly with operational teams and translating financial information into practical action.

Based in Sydney CBD, the role offers 1 day WFH flexibility.

Key responsibilities include:

- Leading and developing the finance team, overseeing month-end close, financial reporting, budgets, rolling forecasts and management and board reporting.
- Owning project accounting,



WIP and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, including unbilled revenue, billings in advance, accruals and provisions.
- Partnering with project managers to challenge budgets, committed costs, cost-to-complete forecasts, variations and claims, tracking margin movements through to completion.
- Managing cash flow forecasting and working capital, improving progress claims, collections and payment processes to support cash conversion.
- Strengthening financial controls, ERP data integrity, reporting and automation, while overseeing tax compliance, payroll authorisation, year-end and external accounting and audit requirements.

You will have the opportunity to build strong relationships across the business, helping operational teams understand the financial implications of their decisions while maintaining accountability for costs, margins and cash.

About You

We’re seeking an experienced Financial Controller or Head of Finance with a strong understanding of construction accounting and the commercial drivers of a project-based business.

You will be comfortable leading a small team while remaining close to the numbers, questioning assumptions and taking responsibility for the accuracy of financial reporting.

This will suit someone who enjoys broad ownership and combines sound technical accounting skills with the confidence to influence operational decisions.

Ideally, you will bring:

- Relevant tertiary qualifications,



ideally supported by CA or CPA qualifications, and experience as a Financial Controller or Head of Finance within construction, engineering, contracting or a comparable project-based setting.
- Strong practical knowledge of project accounting, WIP and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, including reviewing project costs, forecasts, variations and margin movements.
- Demonstrated success improving cash flow forecasting and working capital, supported by strong technical skills across month-end, financial reporting and compliance.
- Experience strengthening internal controls, finance processes and ERP data integrity, with an interest in practical automation and reporting improvements.
- A hands-on leadership style, experience developing a small team and the ability to explain financial performance clearly and constructively challenge operational stakeholders.
