Join one of Australia’s largest and most progressive agribusinesses, where agronomy meets innovation, scale, and community.
About Us
We’re not just advisors, we’re producers. With more than 180,000 hectares of cropping operations under management, our agronomic approach is grounded in real-world farming practice.
Our integrated agribusiness model brings together production, agronomy, inputs, grain, logistics and technology. This gives our agronomy team access to large-scale farming insights, purchasing capability and practical agronomic data that can be applied directly with growers.
Our leadership is hands-on, our culture is collaborative, and we’re focused on growing strong, long-term relationships with farming businesses and communities.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Agronomist to join our Ballarat-based team.
This is a senior technical and commercial role with responsibility for managing and growing an external client portfolio, while developing new grower relationships across Ballarat and broader western Victoria.
You’ll have the autonomy to provide practical, evidence-based agronomic advice, backed by the scale and resources of a diversified agricultural business. You’ll also work alongside our broader production, merchandise, grain and logistics teams and have the chance to explore new technology and commercial initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality agronomic advice across crop planning, nutrition, soil health, weed, pest and disease management.
- Develop practical farm and cropping plans focused on productivity, profitability and long-term sustainability.
- Manage and grow a portfolio of external grower clients.
- Develop new agronomy and commercial opportunities across Ballarat and regional Victoria.
- Use data, digital agronomy tools and emerging technologies to support better on-farm decisions.
- Build trusted, long-term relationships with growers and industry stakeholders.
- Mentor and support developing agronomists.
- Collaborate across our inputs, grain, logistics and production businesses.
- Represent the business at grower meetings, field days and industry events.
What You’ll Bring
- A degree in Agricultural Science, Agronomy or a related discipline.
- At least 3–5 years' broadacre agronomy experience, ideally in dryland cropping.
- Strong technical capability across crop nutrition, crop protection, soil health and integrated pest management.
- Experience managing an external grower/client portfolio.
- The confidence to develop new client relationships and commercial opportunities.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build credibility with growers.
- Commercial acumen combined with sound technical judgement.
- An interest in technology, data and innovation in agriculture.
- Experience mentoring or developing junior agronomists.
Why Join Us?
- Join a large, progressive Australian agribusiness with significant exposure to commercial broadacre farming.
- Work in a business where agronomic recommendations can be tested against real farming experience and data.
- Access technology, agronomic expertise and resources across an integrated agricultural business.
- Work directly with senior leaders and decision-makers.
- Enjoy genuine autonomy and the opportunity to shape and grow your client portfolio.
- Competitive remuneration package including vehicle and incentives.
- Relocation assistance available for the right candidate.
We strive to create a healthy and safe environment where everyone can thrive. We aspire to do this by recognising talent, promoting inclusion and celebrating diversity and encourage talented people from all backgrounds, abilities and identities to join us. All applications from candidates with the right to live and work in Australia will be considered.
Please no agencies, we'll be managing this role in-house. Any resumes submitted outside of our process will be deemed the sole property of Altora Ag Services Pty Ltd.
