Short-Term Opportunity | Potential Ongoing Work
Workforce Extensions Geelong is currently recruiting for a practical, reliable, and hands-on Facilities Maintenance Officer to assist our client, the Australian Automotive Research Centre (AARC), at their extensive vehicle proving ground in Wensleydale, located approximately 11km inland from Anglesea. This is a fantastic prospect for someone with a background in general maintenance, groundskeeping, civil labouring, trade assistance or plant and equipment operation who enjoys working outdoors and undertaking a variety of tasks.
This position is initially being offered as a casual labour-hire assignment through Workforce Extensions Geelong, with work anticipated over approximately the next two months. There may be an opportunity for the position to extend further or transition into ongoing employment with AARC for the right person, however this cannot be guaranteed. Whether you're currently between jobs, looking for some short-term work or interested in an opportunity that could potentially develop into something longer-term, we'd welcome your application.
About the role
Working alongside AARC's existing maintenance team, you'll assist with a broad range of general maintenance, groundskeeping and operational tasks across the proving ground. The work is varied, physically active and suited to someone who enjoys being outdoors, using equipment and getting involved wherever assistance is required.
Duties may include:
- General grounds and property maintenance across the facility
- Assisting with the upkeep of roads, tracks,
surrounding areas and site infrastructure
- Operating various plant, machinery, vehicles and maintenance equipment where appropriately licensed or trained
- General labouring and trade assistant duties
- Supporting the maintenance team with repairs, upkeep and other practical tasks
- Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of operational areas
- General site housekeeping and maintaining safe working environments
- Other maintenance and operational duties as directed
About you
We're looking for someone who is practical, mechanically minded and comfortable working in a hands-on environment. You don't necessarily need to come from a formal maintenance background. We'd be interested in speaking with candidates who have worked across civil construction, grounds maintenance, agriculture, landscaping, trade assistance, machinery operation or similar industries.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- A current Australian driver's licence
- Previous experience in a hands-on labouring, maintenance or operational role
- Confidence working outdoors and undertaking physically demanding duties
- Some experience using tools, machinery or plant equipment
- A practical approach to problem-solving and general maintenance
- Strong reliability, punctuality and a willingness to work as part of a small team
- A good understanding of workplace health and safety
- The ability to work independently when required
Highly regarded, but not necessarily essential:
- HR or other heavy vehicle licence
- Forklift, skid steer, excavator or other relevant plant tickets
- Mechanical, fabrication, civil or trade-related experience
- Previous experience maintaining large properties, roads, tracks or industrial facilities
- Current First Aid certificate, or willingness to obtain one
Successful applicants will also need to complete a pre-employment medical assessment before commencing on site.
This isn't your typical maintenance position. You'll have the chance to work across a large and unique automotive proving ground, gain exposure to different areas of facility maintenance and work alongside an experienced team. For someone who enjoys variety, practical work and being outdoors, it offers a refreshing change from a traditional construction site or workshop environment.
