Southern Star Group is looking for an experienced Payroll Officer to join our Geelong team.

We’re looking for someone dependable, knowledgeable and hands-on. Someone who takes pride in getting payroll right, understands the importance of compliance and is confident questioning something when it doesn’t look right.

You’ll work alongside another payroll colleague, bringing your experience to the team while delivering accurate weekly payroll across seven business units.

Experience with payroll in a manufacturing environment and interpreting manufacturing awards would be particularly well regarded.

What you’ll be doing

- Process end-to-end weekly payroll across seven business units
- Act as a payroll compliance gatekeeper, checking payroll inputs against applicable awards, EBAs, legislation and company requirements, and questioning or escalating anything that doesn’t look right
- Process timesheets, overtime, allowances, deductions and leave
- Manage new starters, employee changes and terminations
- Interpret and apply modern awards, EBAs and the NES
- Review payroll reports, investigate discrepancies and resolve issues before payroll is finalised
- Support STP, superannuation,



PAYG and payroll tax requirements
- Complete reconciliations and respond to payroll queries
- Share your payroll and award knowledge with your payroll colleague, helping build capability within the team

What we’re looking for
- Solid end-to-end payroll experience
- Manufacturing payroll and award experience highly regarded
- Sound knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, contemporary awards and EBAs
- Confidence interpreting overtime, penalty rates, allowances and entitlements
- Experience with MicrOpay, MYOB or a similar payroll system
- Good Excel skills and strong attention to detail
- A dependable, practical and collaborative approach
- The confidence to question, investigate and escalate payroll or compliance issues when needed
- Someone who is happy to share their experience and knowledge with others
