9 month fixed term contract position for an experienced Assistant Company Secretary | Sydney CBD
Your new company
Your current organisation is a well-established, purpose-led organisation representing and supporting a significant network of schools across New South Wales. Working closely with government, education and community stakeholders, it provides advice and support across policy, funding, governance and compliance.
Your new role
Due to an increase in workloads, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant Company Secretary to join the Legal and Risk team on a full-time, nine-month fixed-term contract basis.
Reporting to the Chief Legal and Risk Officer and working closely with the Company Secretary and another Assistant Company Secretary in the team, you will provide hands-on support across a busy Board and Committee environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating Board, Committee and sub-committee meetings, including diary management, agendas, Board papers and minutes
- Following up actions arising from meetings and liaising with senior stakeholders to ensure matters progress
- Maintaining statutory records, registers, delegations and governance policies
- Supporting ASIC and ACNC regulatory and compliance matters
- Providing governance support to the organisation’s subsidiary
- Responding to ad hoc government requests and assisting with governance reporting
This is a highly stakeholder-facing position requiring strong organisation, attention to detail and the confidence to manage competing priorities with limited day-to-day supervision. Some regional travel will also be required.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be an experienced Assistant Company Secretary or governance professional, ideally with approximately 3 to 5 years’ experience in a similar position. Importantly,
you will be comfortable stepping into a busy workplace and operating independently from the outset.
You will bring:
- Previous experience supporting Boards and Committees, including preparing agendas and papers and taking minutes
- ACNC experience, which will be highly regarded
- Strong coordination and diary management skills
- Excellent written communication and attention to detail
- Confidence engaging with Board members, executives and other senior stakeholders
- The ability to work autonomously, prioritise effectively and follow matters through to completion
- Ideally, a relevant qualification through the Governance Institute of Australia, AICD or similar
- Experience using Diligent would be advantageous
You will also need to hold, or be willing to obtain, a valid NSW Working with Children Check.
What you'll get in return
This is a great opportunity to take on a broad and genuinely hands-on Assistant Company Secretary role, with exposure across Board and Committee governance, regulatory matters and senior stakeholder engagement. You will work closely with the organisation’s senior legal and governance leadership and have the opportunity to take real ownership of the day-to-day coordination of a busy governance function.
