Eligibility

This internal training program is available to ongoing APS staff at the Commission at the APS4 level and above.

About the Training Program

The Commission is seeking to further develop our internal relief pool of Commission staff who are trained to undertake conciliations. Successful participants may join an ad-hoc ‘surge workforce’ who will conduct at least four conciliation conferences per month for nine months of the year (or equivalent).

The first step in becoming a Relief Conciliator is to successfully complete this internal training program. Participants who successfully complete the training will also be provided with mentoring and ongoing support to further develop their conciliation skills when undertaking conciliations.

While successful participants will initially focus on unfair dismissal conciliations, there may also be the potential for further training to conduct conferences for general protections dismissal applications.

How to Apply

Your application must consist of the following requirements:

- A resume detailing your recent employment history

- A one-page statement explaining your interest in the program and setting out why you think you would be suitable for the role of a Relief Conciliator.

- A written endorsement from your manager and relevant SES officer

Your Expressions of Interest (EOI) must be submitted via the Commission's online e-recruitment system by Wednesday 11 November, 2026 no later than 5:00PM AEDT.

If you have any questions regarding this role, please contact Nahum Moreau or Ian Morrison or email the Recruitment Team [email protected].

Further information about the Conciliator training program, can be found in the attachments at the bottom of this advertisement.

Additional Information

The selection process will take into account the written application, organisational capability needs and the substantive work area’s ability to support the release of the employee to regularly conduct conciliation conferences. Before applying, employees are encouraged to observe a conciliation, talk with Conciliators and discuss the training dates and ongoing commitment with their manager and SES Officer.
