We have multiple casual opportunities available, with our immediate recruitment focus on our Reverend Charles Harris Diversion Centre (RCHDC). Opportunities may also be available across our housing and homelessness services, including Dale Parker Place, and our women’s DFV shelters.
About the role
As a Support Worker, you will help create a safe, welcoming and supportive setting for people who may be experiencing homelessness, alcohol dependency, domestic and family violence or other challenging circumstances. Your support will help enhance the quality of life for clients, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance in their daily activities.
The work is varied, hands-on and people-focused. Depending on the program, your day might involve:
- Providing practical support and assistance to clients.
- Monitoring client safety and wellbeing.
- Building positive, respectful relationships with clients.
- Helping maintain clean, safe and welcoming facilities.
- Working alongside other Support Workers, Case Managers and service providers.
What we are looking for
Reliability and flexibility are our biggest priorities. Our services operate 24 hours a day, 7 day a week.
We are looking for people who:
- Turn up on time, are dependable and take their responsibilities seriously.
- Can work a variety of shifts, including weekends and night shifts.
- Are patient, respectful and non-judgmental.
- Communicate well and work effectively as part of a team.
- Can remain calm, use good judgement and follow procedures in challenging situations.
- Respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and understand the importance of culturally safe support.
- Are comfortable completing basic documentation and using computer systems.
Previous experience in community services, homelessness, residential support or similar work would be great, but not essential. We are interested in people with the right attitude, transferable skills and a genuine willingness to learn.
What you will need
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence.
- Current Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
- National Police Check.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Evidence of your right to work in Australia
