Build your career in construction with Constructive Group
Are you a recent graduate looking to turn your studies into a career in commercial construction?
At Constructive Group, we’re looking for a motivated and curious Graduate Estimator to join our team in Melbourne. This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience, learn from experienced construction professionals and develop the technical and commercial skills that underpin successful construction projects.
You’ll work alongside our estimating and project teams, gaining exposure to live commercial construction tenders, quantity take-offs, trade packages, subcontractor pricing and the preparation of bids. You’ll learn how construction projects are priced, tendered and won.
We don’t expect you to know everything from day one. We’re looking for someone with the right attitude, an eye for detail and a genuine interest in building a career in construction.
About Constructive Group
Constructive Group is a Melbourne-based commercial construction business delivering projects across the industry. We believe in developing our people and creating opportunities for emerging construction professionals to build rewarding, long-term careers.
Through practical experience, mentoring and exposure to different aspects of the construction process, we aim to give graduates a strong foundation for their future.
The opportunity
Working closely with experienced estimators and other members of the project team, you’ll progressively develop your understanding of the estimating and tendering process. Responsiblities may include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with reviewing architectural drawings,
specifications and tender documentation and preparing trade-specific tender packages.
- Learning to measure trade quantities and complete quantity take-offs using Cubit and Cubit Select.
- Helping issue tender packages and requests for quotation through Estimate One and other agreed channels, and following up supplier and subcontractor pricing.
- Assisting with detailed comparisons of subcontractor quotations, including scope coverage, inclusions and exclusions.
- Supporting the preparation of cost estimates, tender schedules, covering letters and bid submissions, including government tenders where relevant.
- Developing an understanding of construction materials, labour costs, project methodologies and commercial considerations.
- Participating in site visits and meetings to gain practical insight into construction activities.
- Building positive working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and internal project teams.
- Maintaining accurate tender records and learning to use Constructive systems, including Procore and Microsoft 365.
As your confidence and capability grow, you’ll have opportunities to take on greater responsibility and contribute more independently to the estimating process.
About you
You may have recently completed, or be nearing completion of, a degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying,
Civil Engineering or a related discipline. More importantly, you will bring:
- A genuine interest in commercial construction and estimating.
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good attention to detail and an organised approach to your work.
- Confidence communicating with different people and a willingness to ask questions.
- An ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively.
- Sound computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, and enthusiasm for learning Cubit, Cubit Select, Estimate One and Procore.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn from others.
- Previous construction experience, an internship or exposure to estimating software would be an advantage, but is not essential.
Why join Constructive?
