We are looking for a construction qualified who also has experience putting together feasibilities and obtaining development approvals. This is a 360-degree role that takes multiple smaller projects from acquisition through to completion.
In addition, there are existing commercial properties that need repairs and upgrades. So when you think, “I’m an all-rounder”, this is what we are looking for. One day you will be assessing how to get value out of a new project; the next you will be arranging a civil contractor to put in a new footpath.
Understanding construction is important, along with being able to prepare scopes of work for contractors carrying out work onsite. You will manage the procurement of trades and suppliers, as well as onsite health and safety. In between live projects, you will plan capital expenditure for existing buildings across an extensive property portfolio.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing several smaller projects from initial planning through to completion.
- Putting together feasibilities to assess costs, returns and opportunities to add value.
- Working with consultants and councils to obtain development approvals.
- Preparing scopes of work for repairs, upgrades and construction projects.
- Setting budgets and timelines, and keeping projects on track.
- Sourcing and appointing contractors, trades and suppliers.
- Reviewing plans to make sure the work is practical, well designed and within budget.
- Coordinating contractors and consultants, and checking the quality of their work.
- Working with the operations team to plan improvements and capital expenditure for existing properties.
- Assessing newly acquired properties and planning the work required.
- Resolving issues as they arise and keeping management updated on progress and costs.
- Ensuring work is carried out safely and meets approval and building requirements.
About you
You will have a strong construction background, along with experience in feasibilities, council approvals and project delivery. You could come from construction management, project management or development management, provided you have experience across these areas.
You need to be comfortable managing several projects at once, making decisions and following through. You will be able to talk confidently with consultants, councils and contractors, and be just as comfortable organising a smaller repair as managing a development project.
Qualifications in construction, engineering or project management would be relevant, and a building trade background would also be well regarded.
Location and salary
The role is based in Brisbane and pays $200K + super. Travel to sites will be required from time to time.
